IMPORTANT AND JOYOUS ANNOUNCEMENT INSIDE!

Well... it looks like me may have to get a second guild after all.

Today, I invited SoE's 100th member. Thanks again to all of you who have helped make this guild so large so fast, and so successful.

However, when I tried to invite our 101st member, I got a message saying that our guild was full. I went ahead and kicked a couple of folks who were inactive for more than 2 months so there would be room for one or two more folks.

However, apparently, the guild size caps at 100. So, we need to do some talking.

There will be a guild meeting in the near future about what to do now that we're "full". For now, until that meeting, I have to make the executive decision that if you have been inactive for more than 1 month (i.e., your last login shows as 2 months ago or greater), you are in danger of being kicked for a new, active member. IF THIS APPLIES TO YOU AND YOU STILL WANT TO BE A PART OF SoE, PLEASE REPLY TO THIS THREAD.

Thanks for your understanding about this unforseen bump in the road, and God bless.

do you think we have to start making Spirit of Elijah Factions?
have guilds like:
SOE Ravens [SoER]
SOE Paladins [SoEP]
SOE Veritas [SoEV]
SOE BubbleSorts[SoEB]

have each guild specialized for certain tasks, like serious PvP, casual PvP. noob PvP.
have like the capes with the same emblem, but varying bacgrounds on capes.
that way, we can get our smurf guild thing going, but, then again, there are other problems... c'est la vie

Wow.... Bubblesorts?

I don't think we need another guild. Once we have 100 active members that might become a necessity, but I don't see it as one right now.

And I was gonna make an SoE smurf that mostly involves... stuff. I dunno. I couldn't afford the 2 plat for the cape... only have 500 gold :(

I am guessing that the discussion that has started here is what Pastori is planning on being the topic of the next guild meeting, but we can start the discussion here.

Starting a second SoE "faction" (not to be confused with Faction points) would definately allow a larger memebership (another 100 per faction). It would also allow us to start the "smurf" guild previously discussed for the purpose of GvG practice. The down side would be the fact that we couldn't all use a common guild chat to communicate in-game.

If we do need to drop people from SoE to make room, at a minimum we should add the names to someone's (or a few people's) friend list to check for them every so often.

Another idea would be to use a second faction guild as a holding place for anyone inactive for a period of time (I suggest more than 3 weeks) with a guild announcement with instructions that could be updated to contact the active guild leadership to be re-activated. The down side would be that we would need someone's account to volunteer to lead the inactive guild. This should probably be someone active in the forums and with occasional game access to update the announcement and issue invites to the "kicked" inactive SoE members.

I agree for now... but again, I want to hear everyone's opinions first on inactivity, what should constitute it, and if we truly want to start a second guild-- and your suggestions on how to have a unified front if we go with two guilds. We're just brainstorming for the future at this point.

Roger that, boss.

I think inactivity is disappearing from the game for 1 month or more. By disappearing, I mean not logging on at all and not telling anyone why you'll be inactive. For example, Illuvatar Arda hasn't logged on in over a month now, but he told us that he wouldn't be able to due to Ivy League coursework load. He shouldn't be in the same category as those that just stopped playing Guild Wars and didn't leave the guild first, leaving the guild to try and determine their future status.

So, I feel everyone inactive for 2 months or more should be removed at this time and in the near future that everyone inactive for 1 month or more should be removed. I think we should e-mail them and let them know they were removed (or rather that they will be on a predetermined date), but I don't think we should leave them there just for the sake of them still being in the game if they happen to login after 2 months of not playing.

This issue sort of ties into another one. Every member of SoE should have visited these forums at one point or another (the exception being those players whose parents do not allow them to for some reason). The forum use has dramatically increased over the past few months because of those messages, but we still need more members to understand that this is the place to schedule and talk about future and past in-game related stuff.

A second guild seems out of the question to me because of the communication issue. It is simply unfair to have half of the guild, or worse only a few people, in a 2nd SoE guild. Guild chat is one of the main benefits of our existence, in my opinion. The idea that DZWart proposed of moving inactive members to a "holding" guild is not bad, but since we can't accept an invite for them and they have already been majorly inactive, whose to say they'll ever even see it?

I say we add something to the membership charter/rules/info explaining our new process for inactivity (once we've decided on it) and ensure that all new members have read and agreed to it before adding them to the guild (which I'm sure they will). This just leaves the only fault for someone being removed on the member themself. Let us know you're going away for a few months (like myself when I deploy) and we can hold a spot. That's my $.02 for what it's worth.

I agree with Mr. Slice.
A sticky in these forums with the new policy and an editable list of those who have alerted us of them being away for a while and thus safe from being kicked out of the guild.

I think having a second Guild would be a bad thing for this reason

More experianced players not being able to help the new "Active" players on their First Character I was just there a month ago and I love helping others but I really want to play GvG and I think the majority of the "Older Players" would want to play GvG also thus hurting the Newer players. Has anyone thought to petition Arena Net to allow for a bigger slot for our guild? Just an Idea might work. the only way I think a second guild would work is if we had a very active Team Speak but still that is not perfect and New players again will be left out.

I second Mr. Slice's comments and also agree that a 2nd guild is a bad idea. I would rather see the 100 members we carry, be active and progressing. That will happen more as we cut off the people who are not playing within the last month and make the spaces available more coveted and special.

Seriously, if you have not played in 3 weeks with no excuse, you are not excited about the game anymore. You are also taking away a spot from a new recruit who deserves the chance to be part of the growing fellowship in SoE.

Now that we have filled a guild roster with names, we can be a little more picky about who is recruited. Things we should look for are participation in the forums, active playing, encouraging talk in guildchat, and excitement about the game and guild. Maybe new recruits should be placed on a probation period. An officer could be assigned to observe. That way a new recruit doesn't take up a coveted spot in our guild, only to play a few days, never visit the forums and idle for the next month till we boot them.

Not only will these things weed out any discouraging elements , this will strengthen the bonds as we all feel more pride for our Guild.

While my character may be inactive for a while, I do plan on returning in the future. I just got burnt out on the game. I've been playing it for almost a year and a half (since the E3 event in 2004). I'll still be active in the forum and you may see me pop in the game from time to time but for right now, I'm inactive. I'll be wearing out Battlefield 2 and Dawn of War: Winter Assault for a while.

Ya never know... Rome Total War is relaesing Barbarian Invasion, and you can have Christian Cathedrials instead of Pagan Temples this time :) The bonuses for having a Christian City are crazy! Talesin mite get stuck there for a while....

cha-CHING. not 500, make that almost 1 plat. Not much, but for a level 10... I dunno. Is that anything for a level 10? *eats a brownie, then gives one to Lana of Mountlake because Pastorri told me to include "lana is a nerd" in our theme-song*

UPDATE:

I've now booted all but one person who has not logged on in the last 3 months to make way for four new members. If you have not logged on in two months or more, you are now in danger of being booted.

This would include several names that I ran with in the past, like Daralis Halo, Ralnor Swiftwind, and Lemon E Fresh.
