I am sorry for letting the votes of the few out weigh those of the Majority last night in PvP. It will not happen again. Again I am sorry to all those who expected to ViM right away not later. I am sorry and I will go stricly on the polls as I have in the past God Bless.

Dredd and I talked about this late last night. The concern was that some feelings may have been hurt of some who wanted to go trapping and showed up as a trapper on time, only to be turned away.

As I understand what happened, at 9pm there were several necromancers at the guild hall even though ViM trappers was winning the poll. Because so many of the right profession were there and ready, the decision was made on the spot to go ahead and try blood spike rather than asking people to leave and come back with other characters.

This raises some issues with using polls for deciding what to do. One problem is that anyone can vote in the poll, but that doesn't mean that they will be available, on time, for that build or even want to participate. Also with the forums, not everyone votes who wants to participate. The other problem is that for more involved builds than ViM trappers (balanced, for example), we aren't prepared with who will play what role and spend a LOT of time working out who will play what role instead of playing.

What I will suggest is that Dredd and I will try to post build decision polls a little earlier and have them close about 24 hours ahead of time or simply make an executive decision on the build for the night. At that point the thread will become a sign-up thread to have people sign-up to be at the guild hall at the start time with a specific build.

Also, out of respect for those participating, if there is a poll and you do not plan on participating, do not vote. I don't know that this has been a problem in the past, but lets try to keep the poll representative of the desires of those participating.

Thanks for the great job both of you do as officers. I know that too often you hear only about the problems. But you're doing a great job; I know I've learned a lot from all our officers. Thanks again.

Dredd and Derk-- I love the way you guys see a problem, talk and act.

I also love the solutions you come up with almost every time. I approve.

What people don't realize about this guild is that it is not a democracy, which is actually the third best kind of government for a small society. The best would obviously be Theocracy, but since Jesus hasn't shown an interest in running this guild, the next best choice is Benevolent Dictatorship. Leaders make decisions with the best interest of the guild at heart, taking input from guild members. Democracy works on large scales, but not on small ones.

Thank you both for always having the best interest of the guild at heart when making your decisions.

Posts like this are why I truly love this guild.

My childhood Christian training (granted, it sucked pretty bad) never prepared me for what Christian leadership should be, on any level. Some of the things I've seen go on here (like this, and earlier things I saw from Tek7) have given me examples for the words I've been trying to form since I was an uninformed teenager trying to inspire change in my first Church.

I've been blessed in so many ways by finding this electronic congregation. I'm not as active as I was once aiming to be lately, mainly because vacations, work, and planning a move have been dominating my time... but now I think I'll raise the priority a bit higher.

In fact... this forum may be the closest thing to a biblical church that I have ever experienced. I don't know whether that is sweet or sad. Maybe both?
