I scared myself with my internet today.

*NOTE: I know what I did was totally moronic, but I don't know why I did that. X[

:(

When I got home, (I have no idea why, I think internet was going slow), I right-clicked the "Local Area Connection" taskbar thing and I clicked disable, then repair. After I tried logging on, the internet didn't work, it accessed an infamous page in C:\ somwehwere in windows, "shockerror.dll" or something, it gives you that "page cannot b found". I remember, i did something like that b4, disable, then i fixed it. But this time, i had to use system restore. It scared my butt off. Could someone tell me what's goign on?

(((added on::: For some reason, it gave me the "Page Could Not Be Found" thing again and it scared the wits out of me again. But I tried again and it worked.::: ))) HELP ME!

Also, when I boot up, i have a process called DSSAGENT.exe. I know it's spyware, www.processlibrary.com Anyway to delete it manually without getting antispyware programs?

P.S.

I noticed that programs accessing internet are a wee bit slower than normal when they first boot up and attempt to access internet but again that could be the firewall, but it shouldn't be acting much differently

Are you using comcast by any chance?

This afternoon and tonight things have been running very slowly and I was having a lot of time out problems while surfing. Running ping tests randomly I get no response from the servers and I tried everything from rebuild the connection and repairing and clearing netstack, flushing dns, reseting tcp/ip, checking winsock, firewalls, clearing temp internet files, repairing the browser, trying both IE and FF, pretty much everything I do at work and came to the conclusion it was a problem with the ISP.

Called comcast long story short there is a router down somewhere causing lots and lots of problems.

Or use your ScanDisk & Virus Scanner for any problems that may or may not of caused it.

If not, maybe someone accidently pulled the power plug of the router/hub. Or maybe someone accidently pulled the CAT cable connected from the router/hub to your PC, SilentAssassin.

Comcast had a lot of DNS outages today, including in my area.

If you're anywhere in the south, the weather ruined a lot of people's service.

Some times, spyware will hid in program files, thats where i find quite a bit. You can kill the process on windows start up in windows task manager, then go into program files and find it, its usually a .dll or a .exe file inside of folder(s), after killing the process, you should be able to delete the file. Some times though, spyware hids in the registry, so a anti spyware program is needed.

If you mean having to do it manually because you dont want to pay for anti spyware programs, you dont need to pay. Ad-aware SE personal is completely free and does a good job, i use it all the time along with spybot.

It's not comcast's fault. it happened before, when I did the same thing. My other internet things like Norton LiveUpdate, still connect fine. Just not IE I guess, I didn't test anything else.

For you first 2 posters, try this. you might want to create a restore point, so you don't scare YOURSELf.

Go to start menu: control panel, Network & Internet Connections, and click on Network button. Now see the "1394 Connection" and the "Local Area Connection"? Right click, "disable". Now re-enable them again, and try to connect. It won't work. X(

If I disable a connection and re-enable the connection i've never had any problems in the past, in fact sometimes a connection requires that or a repair or just rebuilding if you are having problems.
