I need an adventure...

I love adventure games, but I haven't been able to find a good one in a long time. It seems the formula for classic adventure games is dead. (probably not, but like I said, I can't seem to find a good one)

I grew up playing games like Kings Quest, Police Quest, and The Black Cauldron. I also loved the Monkey Island games and I'm in the middle of Grim Fandongo (all excellent games).

Of course those are all on PC and lately I've been preferring to play games on the consoles just because I find it a lot more comfortable to sit back on a couch rather than at a computer desk (which I do all day at work anyway).

I was recently playing Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox and I have to say that the graphics and gameplay are incredible. The game is a little bloody (ok, make that 'very bloody') which doesn't bother me too much; however, the main theme of the game is tied very strongly with the eastern religions and seem to be presented in a very paganistic manner. (...and of course there's a supporting character that they forgot to put clothes on.)

As much as I love the gameplay, I really shouldn't ignore that very small voice inside that says I shouldn't be playing the game. (and let me tell you, this has a difficult decision to come to.)

Anyway, this brings me back to my main point. It's hard to find a good adventure game anymore. My wife joked and said that I need to start designing one so I can code it after I learn more about programming. (at this point, anything I do would be a text-based adventure.)

Until I can do it myself, does anyone have any recommendations? (preferable for Xbox or Gamecube, but I do still play games on the PC occasionally)

Knights of the Old Republic.

Not quite an adventure game, but I recommend it anyways. IT's available on xbox, though the pc version has a couple really good extras

Yeah, I played it and beat it a couple times.

One thing about me...if it's a Star Wars game, I probably have it or have at least played it.

Nevewinter nights, Temple of Elemental evil, Baldurs gate 1 + 2 - ToB. all great games, as you can see I kinda favor D20 systems

Good games, but I'd classify them more as RPG rather than Adventure games.

Anyone played 'The Longest Journey'?

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a good game, despite it's interesting graphics. Metroid Prime is a good game. It's like a FPS, but it's an adventure game too. ( Metroid Prime is a very good game, long too. Took me over twenty hours to beat it. )

Yeah, I've got both those games too and I'm in the middle of them.

I guess rather than complaining about needing a good adventure game, I should finish the ones I've started.

Yeah, that is a pretty cool game, but MAN it's tough.

I ended up trading my copy of Ninja Gaiden last night for a game by Lucasarts called 'Gladius'.

It's alright, but I probably should have been a little more patient in picking out a game.  The gameplay is alright, but I could have probably gotten a better game.

Oh well!

Does anyone just want to just help me make a game?  I've got some ideas, and I'm currently learning the coding skills.  As I've mentioned before, I've only got the skills right now to make a text-based adventure, but there are some pretty cool old text-based adventure games available.

I'm also probably gonna post my Wheel of Fortune games later in hopes that some of you will help me sort of bug test them.

Hmmm, I have a friend who really liked Gladius. I thought it was more a turn-based type of game.

Not for console, but have you looked at the really old Indiana Jones games for PC? I think those are somewhat along the lines of what you mentioned.

Actually, scratch what I said about Gladius. The gameplay was alright, but I had this problem with some of the religious content. Basically, your warrior was able to get different special abilities by appealing to certain gods.

I took the game back today and got 'Lord of the Rings: Return of the King'

RotK is a good game. I like it's prequal ( Two Towers ) a little bit better, but it's still a very good video game.

Yeah, that's why I got it. I knew it would be a safe buy.

Unfortunately I felt like I was getting a game just to get one, but they wouldn't give me store credit or money back since I lost the receipt for the original purchase.

I guess it's just a lesson to be more careful in the future.

I hate losing stuff. I recently lost a perscription, forunately I had over the counter equivelent at some so it's not so bad.

I've got the 'Return of the King' game too. But it's been unopened since I bought it about 2 months ago. I keep wanting to open and try it out, but I'm already in the middle of other games, I don't want to start something else quite yet. At the time, the price was too good to pass up.

It sounds like a great game. Let us know what you think.
