Please read the following news story:

I am glad to report the judge this morning reduced his bail and the "beating" was not as bad as the media is reporting. However, he did break the law and was clearly in the wrong. I learned about this Sunday afternoon, 10 days after the incident.

The man accused of this crime, the man guilty of this crime, is 26 years old and very close to me... he has been like a son to me and an older brother to my two sons who are 21 and 22. I have known Micah for 11 years and became a close friend after his father died. I have seen him go through some real highs and lows but this is very, very tragic. He made a terrible mistake and on April 6 he will have his pre-trial hearing. In the meantime he has spent 11 days and will spend the next 17 days in the San Diego county jail waiting and wondering what his punishment will be.

He will be calling me tomorrow collect from jail ... and I will be asking for his address to write him a letter. God has put it on my heart to write him a letter every day until his pre-trial date on 4/6. Assuming he can get mail, I will ask him permission to tell my "friends" in "The Forgiven" to write him a letter as well. What would you tell a man who is in jail awaiting trial that could lead to prison? What would you need to hear if you were in jail awaiting a trial that could lead to prison? I would ask you to pray about this. I would ask you to begin writing down some thoughts. I would ask you to consider writing a letter to this man who you have never met.

One more thing, Micah is a Christian. He has been since his teen years. I have seen the light shining bright in this young man and I have seen it grow dim. I hope to see it shining bring one day again too.

What can seperate us from the love of Christ? Can a horrible act of rage? Can a lapse of judgment? Can a season of spiritual dryness? Can spending time in jail? in prison? No! Nothing can seperate us from the love of God, that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Also, pray for his mom. She is crushed. She will return to her home in Phoenix tomorrow. Perhaps a few of you ladies can think of writing her a note of encouragement too.

Now, to him that is able to keep us from stumbling and to pick us up and put us back on our feet. To him who is able to conquer sin, death, and the grave. To him who rose on the 3rd day and offers this same resurrection power to all who place their faith in Him. To him be all glory and majesty today and forever. Amen, and amen!

Lord, we come to You now and we thank You for all the many blessings that You give us.

We lift Micah, his family, the woman he assaulted, and her family, up to You now. We know that You are sovereign over all, and that You will work this situation for the good of those that belong to You. We pray for the salvation of all these involved, and for the turning back to Your fellowship and protection for those that have strayed from it.

We pray that You will soften Micah's heart towards You, that he will see the error of his ways, recognize them for the sin that they are, come to You for forgiveness, accept Your help in correcting his ways, and come back into full fellowship with You. We know that with Your help he can overcome this tragedy in his life, use this situation to become all that You want him to be, and bring Glory to Your name. We ask that this situation will turn him strongly towards You, that he would cling to You, and receive fully the comfort, healing, purpose for his life, and hope, that only You can give.

We ask that You comfort and bring peace to Micah's mother. We ask that You allow her to know that Micah is in the palm of Your hand, and that You will be directing his path, as he allows You too.

We ask that You bring comfort and peace to this woman who was the object of Micah's sin, and her family. We pray that this woman would be completely healed physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We pray for her salvation, as we are unaware of it, and that this situation would be able to be worked for good in her life, thru Your sovereign power. We pray that she would be in the palm of Your hand and sheltered from this storm that has happened to her. We pray that she would turn strongly to You for comfort and security, and that she would receive it fully. We pray that this woman and her family would find the peace and comfort in You that only You can provide to them. We pray that her tragedy would pull her closer to You, and not push her away from You. We pray that she would see the purpose in all of this for her life and would grow stronger for it, and be able to use it to glorify Your name.

We lift up Kevin to you now also. We pray for him to receive Your wisdom and guidance in helping Micah, his friend, thru this time of his life.

We praise Your name, and give You all the glory for all that You do, and all that You are. We thank You for loving us and calling us to You, even when we are so undeserving. We ask all these things in Your Holy Name, Amen.

I talked to Micah today. Because he is an Olympic athlete and the case is very publicized in the media he is in solitary confinement.

All he has is his Gideon's Bible. Wow - that's all he needs. I will have his address in the next day or so and will post it if you want to write him a letter.

I think he is doing ok ... he has his good days and bad days. He is humble, broken, and very sorry. Praise God. He is guilty of a subset of the charges and we are at the mercy of the judge starting April 6.

I have asked him to read Romans 6-8 and Galatians 5 to understand how strong the flesh can be in the life of the believer. I think that he, and we, underestimate it. I don't think he underestimates it now... but oh we are so soon to forget.

I will be surprising him by sending the book "Les Miserables" ... for those of you who know the story you will know why. What a beautiful transformation Jean Valjean made from a criminal to town mayor. He understood his sinfulness and God's grace. Inspector Chauvier could not understand this ... and isn't that still true in our world today?

Anyway, thanks for you prayers. Micah will need strength for the long road ahead.
