I posted this in the CGA General forums and figured I may as well post it here to draw even more attention!

I am very intrested in getting a Laptop for school and, well... just to have one. Im looking at the HP DV9000 series, this one for instance. I like what it has to offer, but I need to know its battery life, how HP's customer support is and how long their laptops usually last. It has the HD space I want, and the graphics power I want and a huge amount of ram, and most importantly, its in my pricerange. Does anyone else know of any other good laptops?

My pricerange is $1000 - $1500.

Oh, and how is the AMD Turion vs Intel Centrio Duo? Im a big AMD fan :)

Thanks guys.

Most Laptops are pretty custoomizable now and days. I have gone thru about 4 of them in my work. You can get the extended battery(do not know how long it lasts) the one you get with the system usually lasts about 45 min after a while. They maylie(shame on them) and say 1-2 hours but I have yet to prove that in this physical plan of exisistance.

Though I do her the extend batteries do last up to and 1 1/2 so that is nice if you spend alot of tiem in airports and every have use all the electrical jacks.

Theres really not many places any more that you can not plug them in some where. With avgerage rough and tumple care it the avargae lap top will last 2-5 years, I know thats a huge gape but its true. I use my every day, home office, business trips and it is still going Dawife has my old one (going on 3 years now.) and I beleive that one took a trip in my breifcase down the Ohare escalator)

So buy what you like the better the graphics and ram the more happy you will be when WOW ups its requriements

Just my opioin
Some will say this company or that, but its all made overseas.

Oh I like AMD, they are the up and comers, the intel daul core or moblie is fimene as well, its more about ram and Vid cards now and days any way(The processor does play a big role) I have a moblie 1.7 and have very little lag, nuless SQL server and my Virus scan kick in on me, but I just shut those down then.

Sager makes some of the best if not best quality laptops in the business. They are geared for gamers so they are strong, fast, and loaded with the right stuff.

The 5750 is right in your price range, but it might be hard not to add some custom upgrades to it.

As for PCTorque. They have been thr top reseller of Sager laptops for years and consistantnly get extremely high marks for amazing customer service.

They don't pay me to say this, I just have a ton of experience in the area of gaming laptops and this is my only brand recommendation.

About battery life...I think it really depends on what you're doing on the laptop. Mine, for example, can last several hours. I've taken it out on the bus and watched anime episodes on it for about 4 hours before it is out of battery. However, playing WoW on it drained lots of battery and only lived for about 30-45 minutes.

I would say that lifespan also depends. Mine has lasted about 2.5 years (even though the motherboard melted in that span of time...but I knew it was going to happen, it's a Dell) and I expect it to last till at least till May 2007, so about 3 years. Some factors are how often you clean the laptop of spyware, what you do on your laptop, whether you toss your laptop around like a ragdoll...those kinds of things.

Thanks for the input everyone except GP... The HP has a lot in it for a little (relatively speaking) price. I customized the Sager to where the HP is and it comes out to be $520 more than the HP, at $1879.00 versus $1349.99. More than I want to spend on a laptop for school, but I can do it if need be. Another thing is that the Sager did'nt have AMD processors :P. Is the only place to buy them online?

Edit... On the other hand I could get a Sager 5950-V. Customized to where I want it its only $5575.04. Pocket change.

Funny story,

My sister-in-law thought that my wireless connection to the internet worked everywhere. We were driving to Disney World and she said "hey can you get on the internet and respond to my email?"

hmmmm

Like I said, I'm too sick to troll properly. Besides, when I was as young as you, paper and pencils were the rage. You could even play X's and O's, so we had computer games :)
