i read a magazine on the train, and it said somethin bout a new microsoft OS by late 06' . its like the edge or ridge or somethin. anyone know bout it?

The new thing with Longhorn is that all the files on the hard drive listed in a database, which makes for faster retrieval times.
I also think that LH will be 64-bit compatible....don't remember.
I bet M$ learned a ton of stuff from their users on all the problems with XP, and they seem to actually be listening to them.

Linux has a lot of these features that are going to be added to longhorn. I believe XP already does "drive indexing" but I don't know if its really an optimized database. Linux has slocate, which works pretty darn fast. Certain distributions of linux also have 64 bit support.
All without the crazy system requirements rumored by Longhorn.
