I have GuildAds installed...Now what?

Pirate!
Great! if you've already gotten GuildAds downloaded, installed, but not setup, this is the post for you!

Firstly, log in. Wait for all the mods to load. It may take upto 30 seconds for everything to initialize.

Next, look around your minimap for the GuildAds icon; it looks like a little scroll

It could be anywhere around the map, or maybe burried under other icons - so just look for it. After you find it, Right Click on it, which will bring up the options. First, we'll set the channels:

GuildAdsChannelsTab2.jpg

You'll need to fill in all 3 checkboxes, and type in "theforgiven" for the "use this channel". There is no password.

Next, click on the "Trade Tab" at the bottom and make sure all three boxes are checked.

Click the okay button at the bottom to close the window.

Next, you'll need to run 3 commands to add GEM functionality for both TF and the aSGA
/gem addchan theforgiven

/gem addchan asgagem
/gem setdefchan asgagem

Sweet! Now you're rocking. With the basics set up, you're now ready to start using the GuildAds mod.

I'll eventually add more things here, but until then, here's some of the basics:

To start, LEFT click on the GuildAds icon that we used earlier to set the options.

The Guild Tab
This is where you can see the other members that are using GuildAds.
Notice that some names have a G in brackets and some do not. The ones in the brackets have the newer versions of GuildAds installed and are transmitting data. You can see their gear, skills, and ads.

To see someone's gear, right click their name, then click Inspect

The Events Tab
This one has a LOT of information on it. Basically, we can schedule events that are available to either TF Members only, or we can schedule events that are open to the entire SGA.

GuildAdsEvents.jpg.jpg

In this example, I've got the weekly TF UBRS run scheduled for April 21st, 7:30pm selected. You can see that I scheduled it with Herekitykity (my druid) and that it's a TF-only event (Look at the 'Channel: theforgiven'. If it says 'Channel: asgagem" then it is an SGA event.)

You can click on the other tabs (Limits and Subscribers) for more information about a specific event. You can also sign up for an event by clicking Subscribe. It's greyed out on my screen because I created the event, and I am already signed up for it. If you accidently subscribe to an event, or find out later that you cannot go, you just click "Renounce" This is greyed out because I cannot renounce my own attendance without cancelling the event.

--------

I will update this later as I get more information. I may also end up creating a 2nd post with more information...split into setup and using posts.... so I"m blocking post #2 :)

Please note: if you are using GuildAds, GEM will seem to stop working! It will be down to 1 tab, instead of the normal 4.

Why? Because all of the tabs have been imported into GuildAds. You just use GuildAds instead - it doesn't constantly blink at you.

*IF* you would prefer to use the default GEM stuff and NOT use the integrated GEM into GuildAds, all you have to do is remove ...\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\GuildAds\ui\GEM directory. Once done, GEM will operate under its own UI again.

ooh.. thanks for the info on those - i've actually had a request on how to seperate them out; i'll pass it along. I'll also add in the dependancy: ace to the original post eventually.

I have installed the newest version today from Adam's link on Ken's box and the newest mod pack that Adam has listed on the forgiven site, however, I can't get the icon to come up on Ken's minimap. I uninstalled, reinstalled, re enabled everything, and it still won't come up. What in the world am I doing wrong? Do we have this turned off in game or something? How would you enable the icon on the minimap if you don't have one? Or if for some reason we turned the icon off?

I do not believe you are doing anything wrong. I have only ever seen this behaviour once, I fixed it by deleting ...

...\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<Your_Account_Name>\SavedVariables\GuildAds.lua

Delete GuildAds.lua and if I was a betting man, I would wager it will work for you.

Me too

My guildads icon also did not appear after I first installed everything. But I fixed it! By exiting the game! When i loaded it back up this morning, the button was there!

BUT...

I can't get those commands to work /gem addchan theforgiven , etc.

I was able to check all the checkboxes under all the setting tabs, but those command lines aren't being recognized. Anybody run into that problem?

Do you have gem installed? When you are in-game, what do you get when you do an /ace list? Is GEM listed? Does it show up under Addons on the Character selection window?

Also Angie, make sure you have GuildAdsPlayerTracker disabled. I think it was still in the last modpack, but it is causing problems with the new version of GuildAds.

Something else, make sure you have ACE enabled; make sure you have GEM enabled.

Ace has a command to show what mods are loaded... /ace list (i think, i'll doublecheck on that tomorrow). see if GuildEventManager and GuildAds are both listed.

Thanks for the write-up, Randy. Just got the new version working. I have a few questions about it, but I'll play with it a bit more before I ask them.

He has ACE, doesnt have the tracker....I will try the deleting thing like Adam suggested and see if that fixes it.

I am getting LUA errors from GEM several times in game. I can't put anything up that I have for others to see in the guild. All I get is LUA errors.

I hate to suggest it but I would rename your WTF folder and Addons or just move them both to your desktop. Then exact the addons.zip again. The WTF folder will be recreated upon logon. You will lose all your customized UI layouts, macros and other keyboard shortcuts. At least you will start clean.

I am so confused:( Y'all are getting too technical for my little brain. Why isn't it working when I just delete his addon folder and re-download it? I am not sure what you are wanting me to do:( Rename it to what? and do what with it? Maybe we can catch each other on teamspeak and you can walk me thru it?

I am a noob:(

Angie

My directory structure is this: (note that *MyAccountName* is not the name of the directory. it will be whatever your login to the game is)

c:\program files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\*MyAccountName*\

Rename the directory *MyAccountName* to *MyAccountName2*

Rename ..\Interface\Addons to ..\Addons2

Re-install the modpack. Log in. Reset Eeeeverything. See the errors go away :)

Ok, with the latest revision 88, they seem to have reset all the configuration which means when you load this version, please set it up again as if you were a first timer. I have requested that they notify people in their release notes when they do this so we can be proactive about informing people. I have also requested that their new "automatic" be changed slightly (automatic is now default). Automatic channel configuration should be your guild's name all lowercase. This would save one step in getting people up on GuildAds.

Just a quick followup. I misunderstood their new automatic. Automatic is default if you are guilded. I only had to make a small change to our guild info window and now, for all our first timers, you will no longer need to configure the GuildAds channel. It will be done for you. You will need to enable all those checkboxes and the /gem commands

I am very pleased when I checked last night, the majority of our guildies where running GuildAds. For the most part, the feedback on the new GuildAds is that it is great. They fixed a bug with spamming us when one of our guildies go AFK. Please snag rev 92 to fix it for yourself.
