I got hacked?

I was playing on a CS 1.6 server, not secured. Playing for about 5 mins, bolded words showed up, YOU GOT HACKED!. I assumed thats humor. I noticed my cd-rom was opening and closing, opening and closing, during CS...

Then someone bragged about opening/closing my cd-rom, immediately I left. I'm surprised that "Hacker" or "The Hacker server" actually did open/closed my cd-rom.

Can you do that on Steam? Can you Hack someone's PC and do stuff?

If so, how do I protect myself from that?

Makes me want to get the AlphaShield when I get paid.

Yeah that is weird, i am not sure if you can or not either....but on a ventrilo server i was on (program kind of like teamspeak), someone came in and said that he had all of our i.p's and he read them all off to us. They are scary.

nah ur fine, its happened to a few of my friends. they busted up luaghing when it happened. its no biggie, its a minor little thing

Admins on the server can run cs cmds on your machine. They can make u record a demo, disconnect, or even quit cs. Maybe they found a cs cmd that acceses your cd tray. Its nothing to worry about. :)

Believe it or not, admins can get your IP easily (all they have to do is a status when they are logged in, gives steam id and IP). Admins can run command on clients (the only way i know of is admin_execclient) and execclient can do what gandhi says.

If you are worried about getting hacked further, I wouldn't worry about it. The only way they could access your computer is through the remote port you used to connect to the server (the 27005 port). Sure they know your IP, but any decent firewall/router will stop them. Connecting to the server left a gateway to your computer only through the remote game port.

And being on a secure VAC server or not, still wont matter, admins can still run commands, or even someone with rcon could possibly do that, i'll look into and test the senario.

My concern would be my CD-ROM opening/closing alot when its made of Plastic, which would easily get loose and break. OR even the mechnical part that moves the CD-ROM, could worn out and break.

Virus scanned and Ad-Awared just to make sure it wasn't an immediate threat.
Though my folders were changed...

I did notice the my CD-ROM stopped when I left the game server.

Would owning a AlphaShield, www.alphashield.com ,secure my PC even if I'm playing on a game server?

If a hacker really really wants to hack you, even the best of firewall may not even protect you. Just an advice so don't waste too much money on it. Just make sure you backup your stuff every 6months to be safe :D

yup. there's always a way into your computer. i bet the pentagon's computers are more souped up than yours yet many people COULD hack into them if they wanted to.
