I am divided on gaming and spirituality...

Could you please elaborate on that? I mean, how does one type like a girl? Does that mean that you use proper grammar and real words and not things such as n00b or l33t or pwn?

I try to use proper grammar and real words, does that mean I type like a girl?

I think MM's point is that she (and many other female gamers) tends to be more conversational where guys typically focus on the mission objectives.

Back on topic. This thread is a good reminder for us to witness by example. Lately, I have tended to avoid PUG's altogether. Keep your eye open for an opportunity to add a non-guild member to a group instead of a henchmen to fill the team. Then the entire group can be a witness by example together.

Oh I was just trying to be funny with the typing like a girl thing, nothing serious! MM didn't take the bait :D

And good idea, I like the idea of witnessing as a guild group.

I absolutely HATE PUGs, unless I actually know someone else in the group. See, I type like a girl, so a lot of people figure out I'm female. Which has led to some very uncomfortable missions...

I dont see how people would hate you for being female.

sorry, my sense of humor is a little dry sometimes. Since most of my posts are serious, or at least on topic (main or sidetracked), I should have said:

Does that mean I type like a girl ;)

I type like a beast, I love command lines, they make the best out of any person. If you cant execute over 10 commands within a minute on a command line, you need some practice.

I have broken 3 keyboards so far within the last 2 years, they end up falling apart

I'm thinking the uncomfortable group situation was from immature gamers realizing "Ooooooh! A real-life female!" and assuming that meant an opportunity for...shall we say...inappropriate conduct.

Just a guess. :P

It isn't that they hate her for being female. Its that many go out of their way to shock and offend her, hoping to get a reaction (and maybe a date too? haven't yet figured out exactly how that's supposed to work... )

The funny thing is - in real life, Dea handles vulgar and rude behavior with considerable restraint, patience and tolerance. On the other hand, I'm the one who is easily angered and outraged when someone bad-mouths my wife or rudely approaches us asking for money downtown.

I really do love the idea of witnessing via PUGS, because I have so often received pms from PUG players complementing our guild and asking questions about it. But at the same time, we have to keep in mind that many of our guildies are here to enjoy a playing environment relatively free of vulgar and offensive behavior and language (that's why your officers have to work so hard to put a clamp down on that kind of stuff within our group whenever it pops up). We all know through experience that inviting even 1 PUG player into a group can bring in vulgar and offensive behavior and language. So personally I think its a good idea to clear the idea of inviting PUG players with everyone in a group first, and respect any objections that come up. That's not anything official, just my suggestion.

"Typing like a girl" is a term my friend's husband coined to describe my in-game communication. (He didn't mean it in a bad way...) It encompasses complete sentences, good grammar, multisyllabic words, the sparing use of acronyms, and a nice tone. As he put it, "You never say, 'dude thats so lame.'"

And yes, definite unpleasant behavior has resulted. Vulgar language, sexist remarks, and propositions (how is THAT supposed to work?). Another result has been demands of whether or not I'm really female, followed by sweeping pronouncements that I'm a guy pretending to be female when I ignore the question. Oh, and emote-enabled molestation...

So, yeah, I don't like PUGs. Though they never bother me when it's clear I know someone in the group.

Duh! I'm a woman who takes public transportation and walks. AND who attended an urban university. I had to learn to deal with it loooooong ago.

So, typing like a girl isn't like "my build is the "Ub3r P00n4g3 build" with some 1337 skilz mixzorzed in"?

Now that I have read a portion of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" I am finally able to identify this. This MUST be Vogon poetry.

HA! I read all of the books except for a bunch of Mostly Harmless (I generally stop reading a book once I see the F word...) and a part of So Long and Thanks for All the Fish because it said if I wanted to read about Arthur and Fenchurch read on but if not skip to the last few chapters because it's more funny there and there's a part with Marvin
