This game looks HOT! No, no, not the woman with the cleavege about to fall out. The game looks amazing.
It's a MMOFPS, with influences from both derived genres. The thing that caught my eye the most was the P2P (Peer-to-Peer) Battles. It's a zone set apart for good ole fashion FPS'ing and it doesn't affect your hero's level, money, anything. Sounds cool huh? A clan can claim a Battle Zone (similar to WoW's Battle Ground's) all to themselves.

"If a clan wins over a specific territory through battle (maybe a Lunarite mine on a small island), they can accumulate wealth [with which] to buy vehicles and awesome housing for its members,"

It's being developed (and produced) by Webzen a Korean company. TBA 2006.

Acording to the videos the game is using the Unreal 2k3 engine and will be released this summer.

Watch the 4 movies on Gamespy/IGN, their pretty darn good.

Sony made an attempt at a MMOFPS (and blatantly lifted the gameplay style and mechanics of Tribes) and called it "Planetside." I'm not even sure if that game is still around. There's also Neocron, a game developed by a German software company (I believe). I played the beta for Neocron and admit that I rather enjoyed it, but I don't know if it's still breathing, either.

MMOFPS is nothing new, but I hope that Huxley succeeds where others have failed. Korean game developers ftw.

Now if only MAIET would get GunZ working again.

This game does look interesting and the graphics look amazing on the Unreal 3 engine but I can't see myself paying a monthly fee unless there's just no other option left to me.

The pay to play model may very well become the standard in the future of PC games because of pirates but for now, there are plenty of titles that have free online play after retail. We can only hope that more titles take up the model that Guild Wars has created.

Yep, I own Planetside. I played that game for a long time. The game had a ton of problems and it did finally get old to me, but for the most part I liked it. I was in a huge clan that was organized well, we would have massive assaults on bases with tons of tanks and reavers, transport ships, great fun. I loved the Tribes series too and noticed the similarities immediately.

MMOFPS's have been around since 2001 (I think WWII Online or something like that was the first attempt). Huxley, though, looks like the first MMOFPS actually done well.

P.S. Planetside is still active and I think alot of people still play, from the looks of their website. Still cost's $12.99/month USD to play.

They took stylistic elements of Tribes but the weapons, vehicles, and lack of jetpacks made the gameplay quite different. The first FPS that I ever played at a competitive level was Tribes 2, so I'm quite a fan of the series. I also played Planetside for a while, and even had a highest-level character and was an officer of the largest New Conglomerate guild on our server. What really killed Planetside for me, in the end, was the considerable amount of LAG-- a problem which was only exacerbated by people demanding "the epic scale of large-scale ground war." So the developers, instead of trying to scale down the battles to individual fights to reduce lag and make it feel like a coherent game, instead changed the travel dynamics so that you could instantly warp to one of any of the major spamfest fights that were going on at the time.

This meant that, eventually, the entire population of the server stabilized into one large battle that rarely moved, and in which very little resources (bases, etc) changed hands. To fight in one of those battles was a very boring prospect-- you spawn, you hold down the fire button and look around in all directions to try to kill something (it was so laggy that you often weren't even shooting in the same direction you were looking), and repeat the process indefinitely. At pseudo-random points, a message would pop up on your screen and notify you that you had killed someone. There was no feeling of accomplishment when you took an enemy base, because you never did anything besides spawn, hold down fire, and die, about 300 times in a row. The reason you took it, is that you had about 500 other guys doing it also, whereas the enemy had about 400.

If, on the other hand, they had focused on making the fights smaller, more distributed, and more personal, the game would have been a success, and hopefully that's what Huxley will do.

Also, props to the developers for using Unreal Engine 3!

I saw a video for Huxley a while ago and it looked awesome, I'll keep my eye on the game once they start releasing more info. And if it were up to me, all FPS games that are coming out in 2006 would be required to use Unreal Engine 3.

I watched two of the four videos (I had all four queued to download in GetRight, but only two finished) and must say that the videos are quite impressive. Still, it doesn't provide us with a clear representation of in-game gameplay. That may be covered by the other two videos; I need to make another attempt at downloading the two I missed.

Video #3 is a demo of gameplay and shows off the graphics (which look very nice). It doesn't go into details though. Video #4 is the same as Video #2 just better quality. I hope they go deep into the RPG element of the game and not give us another Planetside. Even if they do I will be checking it out.

Would it be possible to get a Huxley chapter of toj started? I know it's still in dev, but there is tons of hype around this game and I think it will be a major release. There are alot of clans sprouting up already. I would be willing to lead the chapter, if possible.

*Edit*: BTW, Their suppose to be releasing a beta client (someone said march). No details on when and how many slots (if any), but I'll post here when they do.

Oh, very interesting, I watched the vids. Graphics look so amazing. I liked gunz, the mmofps with some rpg in it. I think i'll like this, i'm all for playing the beta, but i wont pay any money for beta or full version in the terms of monthly cost.

I think some/most betas require you to preorder the game, though im not sure what webzen plans on doing.

Wow, I hadn't seen the 3 non-E3 trailers before, but I have to agree with you apoc, this game does indeed look hot. Visually very impressive, it's like HL2's awesome character models and physics mixed with Doom3's impressive lighting (can you tell I haven't been keeping up with the latest games?). Then again... UE3. Seriously though, those graphics are just amazing to me. But hey, graphics aren't everything, I will be anxious to find out how this game turns out. Any open beta they might be having I would definitely be interested in.

I think they way they've worked the graphics, it will run pretty smoothly on the average 2.0Ghz computer. Even if you have a slower computer you can turn your Anisotropic Filtering way down and use Bilinear Filtering.
