Hunger by the people, for the people, and of the people

I am a bit confused and let me explain why:

I just watched Happy Feet. Now I know there are a lot of messages in there but I want to bring to light the one that struck home with me. This movie (like so many others) has a heavy spiritual desperation in it. I see so many people today that seem so lost and wanting an answer- and looking in the wrong direction. I don't blame them for looking in the wrong places though because they are all so disallusioned with religion (all of them- muslim, christianity, etc.) and the problems all the extremists cause for the regular guy. There is also the sense of apathy that comes from the church that turns them off too. I just can't understand what is wrong.
Here we are with water to give the thirsty and yet they don't come to us because we are at war with ourselves and they would rather be thirsty than have a drop of water that we have poluted so bad... Anyways, I see so much despirartion and longing that it pains my heart. I want to help but I don't know what to do first or at all really. I just know that "religion" as the world sees it is no longer the answer. Now let me explain before you jump at me- I mean all the doctrine and the thou shall do this attitudes they have shoved at them. They NEED something real, something life giving, something not guilt inducing. Obviously, being part of this forum, I believe the answer is Jesus. I just don't know what to do... hence the confusion.
Any ideas?

The best thing you can do is love God. People won't be impressed by doctrine but they will be constantly confused and in wonder of a life lived for God. Being self-sacrificing can't be explained logicly. If we have christ in our lives others will want to know whats up.

I think you should pray about what to do. The confusion comes from not hearing God's plan well enough. It sounds like you want to go out and help but you cant effectivly do that unless you know what to do. Pray about it and then pray some more. If God truely wants you to go out and do whatever he will tell you on HIS schedual.
Good luck in your quest tho. I can see the fire burning within you. Its awsome. God is working through you, compared to your first post way long ago, i think you guys have come a long way. Its amazing to see what God can do.

I've seen the desperation, too, and it's heart breaking to see so many people throwing themselves headlong at things that will only make it worse.

BUT I think you're missing something on the guilt issue: if we've done something wrong and have not repented, we should feel guilty. And of course, repent doesn't simply mean "I wish I hadn't done that;" it means deciding "I should never have done that, and I'm going to do whatever I can to make up for it and make sure it doesn't happen again." Yes, we need to express love; but it's an individual's own knowledge of their inability to do it themselves that will drive them to seek the One who can do it for them.

i agree with you that people dont see religion as an answer anymore. nowadays if you are a professing Christian you are "close minded" or "intolerant". It's these days how many girls at my high school, MY AGE! are going emo (it means that they cut themselves, for whatever reasons), one girl is even n. best thing to do is love on 'em and show that you are a Christian through that.

That's not what emo is. What you're describing is masochism and or a result of depression. emo kids listen to sad crummy music. Regardless, these people need to be prayed for.

I think the best thing the church can do today to shut down all the negative views about Christians is to serve their fellow man. The early church grew because people saw the love and care for each other that they acted out each day. Jesus even said " they will know you are my disciples by your love" So my advice is to have lunch after church every Sunday (pot luck is always an easy way to go, it's cheap and you get extra fellowship time in too) and then go put God's love into action; mow a elderly or single mom's yard, help out at the homeless shelter, cook at the soup kitchen, have free home work help, visit the old and lonely, teach English as a second language, host a credit repair workshop, cut and deliver fire wood, collect suitcases for foster kids, make warm hats for the homeless, or Russian orphans, or northern Native American reservations, or whatever your community needs.

Pardon an anti-social person's ignorance, but what is emo?

basicaly emo is a watered down goth. There are many stereotpyes that fall under the "emo" category, but no one really knows exactly what the "dictonary" definition for emo.
Basicaly anyone who wears all black, bad attitude, kinda druggy looking, normaly cuts, black make-up... you know, the whole 9 yards

emo means Emotional btw and you dont have to cut to be Emo that is a common mispreception btw. Emo Music is Like Reliant K they are pretty emo.

Too late, i have already done that. I had an Karate Elmo shirt.. tho it is too small now, but it was adorable! And my High School's short name is Elmo. Tho our mascot is the lions.... i think that is wrong tho! ELMO FTW!
