How does a iPod shuffle work?

A relative of mine got it for free and I wanted to try it out.

Installed the software, check.
Updated the software, check.
Charged the Shuffle, check.
Loaded the music, check.
Playing the music from the shuffle, negative.

It does say the music is in storage device (iPod shuffle), but why won't it play them!?

I've been doing this for weeks now, everything is fine, but as soon as I press the play button, no music, nothing.

Now, if it doesn't work, I think it can be refunded since it may be defected.

Though, I could always go back to using my CD player, just wanted to see how nice it would be, if iPod Shuffle works.

Oh also, everytime I use the iTunes program, it keeps crashing on me!

I'm not really surprised :(

My little sister has had problems with her ipod since she got it and also with the computer since installing itunes....oh and after a little less than a year, her battery quit holding a charge.....lets see, oh yeah about two months after having it the ear buds blew...literally - they no longer worked......now they aren't even sure they can replace the battery, might have to replace the whole ipod.....oh and one other note, wal-mart music downloads aren't compatiable with ipods.

So umm...I would say if you can take it back, take it back and get a creative zen....much better for your money......in most cases they come with a protective case, charger, fm tuner built in.....for a much more reasonable price....

anyways.......just my 2¢

Is it the old Shuffle or new Shuffle?

Is the Hold switch turned on?

Old shuffle, and to be sure, I tried if it was on Hold, it doesn't work.

Forget it, I'd rather go use my CD Player that I've been using for over 3 years!

I had a Shuffle 1gig model. It was in my gym bag that got left in the rain. It holds the data, is recognized by the computer, but will not hold a charge, or play any music.

My wife and I love our iPods. I'm not what you would call an Apple Fanboy, but I do think that Apple makes great products and I trust their quality over most companies -- at least definitely over M$.

For the iPod Shuffle, how did you attempt to load the music onto the Shuffle? Just curious since you mentioned that iTunes crashes. You must load the music through iTunes and you can't just drag and drop the music onto the iPod through Windows Explorer.

I have an ipod nano (2gb) it works great and works fine with amarok in linux. They have some tools that allow you to move music to and from the music partition.

The partition table on the nano looks like:
[music partition] [data partition] with the music partition dynamically allocated as you put more music on it.

Still debating to put linux on it...

your paying for a good quality (atleast besides the shuffle) product with one of the best navigation system in a portable media player.

I actually liked my rio carbon untill it sorta fried its ide controller, oh well, free 5gb drive :P

A friend of mine got an iRiver and loved it until he played with my wife's iPod Movie. Now he has iPod envy! :D

Likewise, I had just figured that I would get another brand of mp3 player due to the high cost of the iPods. Then I played with my brother-in-law's iPod and realized that it's worth every penny! Now between my wife and I, we have two iPods and a shuffle. My brother-in-law has an iPod Movie and my sister and they're kids all have iPod Minis. I love my iPod! (it is worth noting that my brother-in-law is an Apple fanboy though)

Do you really need 5629345628475623856987 iPods??? I just surf the web at work and listen to the radio in the car, and then play wow at home. Thats my entertainment.
