Hey Joshinator and other techs, so how is that Ivy Bridge for gaming?

it looks good. It's not a huge jump as it is a tock on their scale but it is a nice improvement. I would wait a bit for the premium pricing to come down a bit though.

HD Graphics 4000 still isn't a viable option for heavy gaming (but who really thinks integrated graphics ever will be viable) with only minor FPS boosts from 3000.

From the benchmarks I've seen (at least for the high end ivy) it is an upgrade, however not a necessary buy. The i7-3770k is only scoring a couple hundred points higher than the i7-2700k, so if your in the market for a high end (but not as expensive) consumer CPU, the 2700k is still a smart choice (probably the smartest for people without infinite money).

Overclocking (again I haven't paid much attention to anything other than the i7-3770k) seems to not be as good as sandy bridge, however. It seems to have trouble staying stable at the same frequencies that sandy bridge can stay stable at. However, because it's an upgraded CPU entirely, it still can match the new i7 with slightly lower frequencies.

Heating when OCing seems to be an issue. Ivy bridge tends to be about 10C hotter than sandy at each respective CPUs max stable overclock.

Anyway, that's what I've gained so far from the news and garbage. I'll admit that after paying attention to and buying myself a 2500k, I stopped paying as much attention to ivy bridge as I was before. Therefore, I doubt I am the most informed person on the matter of ivy bridge lol.

Since the 2500k can be over clocked to 4.0 ghz on stock cooler, seems like there is no reason to pay the extra at this point.

Mike, can you tell me in pm if you want, what you used to build her pc? I may copy it since my main pc still needs the overhaul. I don't have to go with AMD since I haven't purchased anything yet. Thanks!!

Everything sounds great.. I see the i7 is in store pickup only <.< lol but still great info for me! Does it crunch our WCG, too? ^_^
