My pc is suddenly really sluggish.. i think something may have overheated... some help me and tell em whats up with my pc..

It takes a long time to boot now, and everything runs real slow. Not usually once its going but loading something up kills it. It did auto reset when i was playing CS but it seems to have stopped that now. However if i try to run too many things at once it throws its teddies out?

im thinking it could be a fried cpu but im guessing. any ideas?

How his your hard drive space?  Sluggish PCs can be attributed to no hard drive space for your paging file to grow.  Things will go a lot slower at that point.  The easy fix is to clear out temporary internet files, remove unused applications and defrag once your are done.

its definitely a problem.. everythings working fine now.. then sometimes it will just slow right up...

It could be the recent windows update.
It could be i left it on all day on a hot day.
It could be a virus tho i have checked it with norton.
It could be norton =/

Im talking more than slugs.. i mean wait 5 mins for CS to unfreeze and load.. then another 5 mins to get in teh server.. then it runs normally.. O_o

Arf i did a chkdsk /f on reboot and it came up with a million erros. i m anaged to get it to check through the second time of doing it but i still ge errors the kind of..

file record segment xxxxxx is unreadable.

It boots a lot faster now though but i havent had chance to see if there is any more slowdown. DO i need to reformat my hdd if there is that kind of error?

depending on what's causing the error, reformating may fail, and all you'll do is destroy any data you have on there you may want to keep.

the bad sectors, could have been acting like a full drive as far as the paging system was concerned. which would/will account for the long boot times and slow downs.

i'd do all your backups, try the reformat, but be ready to go get a new HDD.

Does it ever come up with a message saying something like the computer will shut down in so and so seconds? Because it sounds like you have the Sasser virus.

alright, your description is kinda familiar to my experience...the only missing part is clunking noice from harddrive...I had similar problem but there was a clunking noise from my hd...that means it was dying

hear for some sound, if there's clunking sound...i suggest backing up soon as possible cause your hd will be dead soon....

After running the chkdsks my pc seems to have gone back to normal.. i dunno if thats just a quiet before it dies.. I will check out this sasser virus though i dont get any errors.

I backed up my docs but i really dont want to have to format or buy another hdd unless its totally necessary.. i mean it it in a workable state at the moment.

Backups are good. The thing to check would be if in a couple days/weeks if you have more bad sectors on the drive. If there aren't any, it may just be isolated to a specifc platter on your hard drive. With chkdsk, it marks the sectors bad and the puter will not try to use them. If the bad sectors grow, it is probably a faulty head. Then you will need to replace the drive.

Arf i had some problems using msn so i checked it again... More errors in a different section of the disk. And when it rebooted my modem was out... Im sending the HDD back tomorrow. I will be afk for about a week and a half i suspect. I can still get on forums and check my mail intermittently..

I think you got the sasser. I would update your virus scan and get the new windows patch. mine did somethign similar and then wouldnt boot. I had to reformat to get windows working again. Once I did, I got mcaffee up and running and sure enough, sasser had gotten ahold of me.

Neg i had the latest windows update and latest updates of norton 2k4 pro. In fact when i updated windows was when it started going funny..
But im sure its not a virus.. Almost certianly a head problem.

slow running machines can be hard drive, usually you can get a free diagnostic tool from the manufacturer's website, worth a run

Yeh it was a head problem. they replaced it and i am now back online.. just have to reinstall everything
