Guild Wars 2

This is happening. I'm surprised no one had really brought it up (at least not that I could find). I realize it's years away from the actual release, but they've hinted alot at the direction the game is going, and I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks about it. :D

To me is sounds like the best of WoW and the best of GW put together, I am excited about it and cant wait for the new stuff.

Years away? I though GW:EN was GWs 2...

No no no no, GW:EN is an expansion for Guild Wars (much like Factions or Nightfall but only for existing players). They've started working on a completely new sequel slotted to start Beta in a year or so. Here we go: :D http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2.

Can anyone say "attempt at a WoW-killer"?

Yes, I can. Because it seems like that's what every new MMO is trying for these days. It's pretty clear that WoW set the standard for the traditional MMORPG, but what makes me worry about Guild Wars 2 is that the whole point of Guild Wars was a break away from that style. Their big advertisement (aside from no monthly fee) was "Prove your worth with every battle as skill, not hours played, decides your fate." <--that's on the box.

So I guess I just worry that they're not really trying to improve on the amazing game they've made so much as break into WoW's market and get a bigger slice of the pie. It spells trouble for fans of the original.

It may be 100 or no Cap at all. Now that to me is not a bad Idea in the sense of it being like a growing title and not really effecting your skills. It still is going to be a lot different than WoW. I am not worried too much yet but we will see!

I wouldn't mind that as much. Still, I think the title system we have now is just fine. It's still pretty clear who has been playing the game longer, but I am afraid if levels were added, it would just be a great way to segregate new and old players.

I hope they add an "Examine Character" feature. That's one thing I felt GW was lacking in especially when so much of the game is the acquisition of "phat lewt." It would be nice if people could look at it, and they could also see your titles, bio, etc. :p

Ah, I see, thanks for the link. I just hope that they not only bring there "A" game but up it as well. But once I go over the link and such I'll probably have my 2 cents to add into this whole thing.

idk, i think the PCGamer atical left more question then awnsers about why their making GW2...kinda scares me because of that. There is alot of hints that they designed all games first (to some extent). It seems like thet kinda wanna scrap and do something differnt. I used to make user-made levels for FPS's and i kinda did they same thing. I hope it goes great but i really would like it if i was able to bring my guys over, even if it takes a year to do it. I think it is an attempt to be a WoW-killer but if not it will still be great!:)

Well, with the Gamespy article yes I would agree is so far leaving me with more questions than answers such as why are they deciding to not let us carry over our characters from the previous GWs games? But I also want to reserve judgment until I am able to see more of the game itself if not actually play it first before I make any sort of statement further than this one and quite possibly one or two other ones...

I can understand them not letting us carry over our characters. As fun as that would be, they're meant for this game. My questions are more along the lines of why they're moving away from what they've got going. I guess there's some kind of diminishing returns when it comes to skills, profs, etc, but frankly if they just kept making stuff like GW:EN indefinitely, I'd be totally satisfied.

There IS an article (I think it was Kotaku) where they said they had a brainstorming meet about everything they wanted to do in Guild Wars, and by the time they finished, it was all stuff that would go great in a completely separate game. So I dunno, maybe they've got some revolutionary plan like they had last time. :p

One reason they are making it a NEW game instead of the "another chapter every 6 months" thing is: Think about it. Every 6 months you would need to make a WHOLE new map, WHOLE new skills, WHOLE new perfessions, WHOLE new plot, WHOLE new "training" area, all the skill balancing, and everything else that makes GW great. Its just plain and simple, they burned out. They set the goal too high and didnt realize what they were getting into. So when they sat down for a brainstorm they had all these great ideas but they couldnt do anything for numerous reasons (A. previous characters [IE. they coulnd make playable species, or raise lvl cap] B. The game would take to long to make and too long for people to get there C. change graphics that much or the dynamics).

Then they realized "hey, we got all these great ideas, we cant do anything with them, we are running out of ideas for new campaigns, why dont we just make one last thing, I know, an expansion"
"ooooo," says the group.
"why dont we gather up all of our ideas and make a NEW game! Totally different then the present" The head person said with a smile on his face.
"ya!" one yelled out
"But what about the people playing now, it will take years to make this new GW, are we gonna let them sit on Nightfall for 3 yrs while we make this new GW?" Gaile Gray questioned.
"Yes, ur right, we cant let this stay on NF for yrs while we make this new game. Why dont we come out with an expansion, something to let them chew on till we are ready. It can tie everything up... and I know, we can give them hints and clues about whats going to happen in GW2. That will keep them glued to the GW franchise" The head person dude purposed.
"ya, and since we cant make them take there characters over from GW1 to GW2 because the graphics would be different, and the dynamics, and the lvl cap, and then people would come in lvl 20 in a lvl 1 place. lets make at least something for them, so not EVERYONE is mad at us." Gaile Gray said obviously doing her job well.
The rest of the group agreed and they sorted out jobs that needed to be done and timelines to set. They all went there seperate ways, The head dude to go give orders, Gaile Gray to hope on GuildWarsGuru.com to tell everyone, and the Thinking people went to their desks to come up with one last awsome plot line for GUILD WARS: EYE OF THE NORTH!

aint my story beautiful!? :D i worked so hard on it.. oh and MM and C$ I DONT CARE BOUT GRAMMER! im not in school thus meaning i can break the rules how, ever; m'e want! ;)

Stc... rather close actually. This is from that Kotaku article:

When they looked at what they had accomplished with Guild Wars and its campaigns they were happy with what they saw. Then they looked at what their gamers were asking for and it wasn't one more campaign, one more continent to explore, new professions to learn.

"What people wanted, I think, was more content for the existing models," Strain said.

So the team started creating a wishlist of all of the things they'd love to see added to Guild Wars and when they were done they realized it was too much to stuff into the existing game.

Instead it was a master plan for how to build the "ultimate Guild Wars game," Strain said.
