Guild leadership

I'm one of the newest officers in the guild (and the noobest) and it is my privilege to be a part of the team. I love praying with people, encouraging them and having fun playing WoW together. For me it is my online family.

One of the questions I would like to both ask and answer is why have leadership?

In our society today we must admit that authority is seen as a negative impedance to the enjoyment of our lives. Most of us (including me) buck against the idea of authority. In fact most of us buck against Jesus being Lord of our lives if we are honest.

This is what I love about the Bible - it gives such clear truth directly from God.

The answer to the question of why have leadership is rather straightforward: Because it is God's design.

1) Leadership while difficult to submit to is actually a Biblical institution -

Hebrews 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.

- This passage is dealing with leadership within a church but the principle remains the same, in order to function properly as God's people we need to submit to leadership.

2) Leadership doesn't receive a free pass

In that very same passage it says that they must give an account. That account is to God. Therefore leaders must be submissive to the Holy Spirit and obey His leading in their lives.

- Anyone who thinks that leadership is about having power doesn't belong in leadership - it is about governing well with God in the driver's seat
-Those who treat members in an unjust manner are accountable for their actions

3) Members don't receive a free pass

The very same passage also tells us that those who are under leadership ought not to make the work of leaders a burden but a joy.

- Those who antagonize leadership are also accountable to God

4) The mutual goal of members and leadership is to glorify God and to experience joy

- If the goal is selfish and does not bring glory to God and joy amongst the body then it simply needs to be forsaken as idolatrous self-worship

5) Pray for your leaders
The job is difficult but when leaders and members work together clearly there is joy to be had. Pray for them to have wisdom and to hear from God.

6) Pray for you members
Leaders ought to be concerned for those they govern and lift them up in prayer.

Ultimately what I hope you see is that there is a little bit of push and pull, and mutual accountability. If we are all working together we will experience the joy of the Lord.

So please if anything we covet your prayers as leaders and desire to help you enjoy WoW (and help us to enjoy it too)

Our God is so good.
