Goliath Trick Jumping

I made a short demo of three of the harder trick jumps on Goliath. One is a good camping spot from the flak side of the teleporter, one is a double shield jump to a super-secret sniping spot, and one is the famous roof-to-100 jump as seen in No Escape vol. 1, which I miss twice on the demo before hitting.

It's available here. Save the file to your UT2004\Demos\ folder and open it from the Demos tab of the "Community" option on the UT2k4 main menu. If it says that additional packages are required to view the demo, just connect to the 2v2 server and it should download any packages you need, since I recorded the demo on that server.

Enjoy!

What is the server IP address and password?

Wow. Just watched the demo and I have to say that I am once again amazed at the range of movement available in UT2004. I didn't even imagine jumps like this.

If Rizz has a copy of UT2004, I bet he'd get a kick out of these videos. He was into trick-jumping in Q3 when he used to play.

Watching now... I don't play Goliath often (mostly Rankin, Campgrounds-G1E, and Grendelkeep), but I may add it to my "play often" list once I learn these.

Haven't downloaded, the demo, but is that super secret sniping spot the one we sat around for like 15 minutes blasting each other up to?

That was really awesome jumping. I wore out my fingers trying the simple one. I got something set up wrong with my keys. I can't seem to jump and dodge the direction I need to go. I've gotten used to my jump on the a key and left on s and right on g and forward on e and back on d. I just can't dodge jump right and double jump at the same time. I can do left dodge jumping fairly well. I can't blame this one on dial up because it's on my high speed computer. :)

Any suggestions. I do have the nostromino n52 pad I use or just the keyboard.

I use my nostromo pad, but it could be done just as easily with the keyboard.

I have my movement keys as WASD, shift as crouch, and spacebar as jump. Then I just translate those keys to the respective nostromo keys. If I'm using a keyboard instead of the nostromo, I usually use ESDF instead because you get more free keys near them that you can bind as weapons or other things.

Are you having problems sliding up to the little platform above the teleporter or are you having problems getting across to the final ledge?

Doing the slide jump next to the teleporter is fairly easy; it's just like slide-jumping up the ramps on rankin. Position yourself a little ways back from the start of the ramp and then just dodge jump straight into it and it should carry you up. The goal is to hit the ramp as you hit about 30 degrees upward on your dodgejump angle. I can't really describe it any better than that. If you're having trouble with slide ramps, go into DM-Rankin and practice on those, as they're wider and easier.

Once you're on the little platform above the teleporter, all you have to do is point yourself at the target ledge, then:

jump
double-tap forward to dodge off the wall behind you and hold down the right movement key
jump again in the air while continuing to hold the right key.

Holding the right key uses the 15% air control in default settings to angle you closer to the ledge. Experiment with holding/not holding it down to see where you land. And remember, while you're crouching, you will not fall off a ledge. You'll move right to the edge of it and stop.

Yes. On the %L location indicator it says "Super Secret Quad Jump Low Grav Sniper Spot" or something like that. Turns out you can get to it by shieldjumping. Props to $arge for showing me that one.

Theres a few more jumps you can do on Goliath that are pretty neat, but I can't demo them yet because I can't do them regularly enough. For instance, you can goo-jump from the ledge above the flak (the one you access by dodging across from the rockets area, not the one I showed you how to get to from the demo) straight to the 100. You can also use goo-jumps to reverse the roof-to-100a jump in the demo. I tried it and did it on my first try and I've been unable to do it since. $arge can't do it though. :P

I'll try to record some more of these on other levels over winter break.

I use ESDF on my Nost. too. My N52 has 14 keys with A,B,C settings which gives 42 possible. The older one only had 10 if I remember correctly. The platform was above the transporter was the tough one. I got on it one time out of about 50 tries.
I'll have to do some offline jumping. I don't practice jumping much because of dial up. It just doesn't work on dialup much at all. I just run and gun. :)

Don't ever recall anyone mentioning a goo jump. I'd like to see that one too.

Here's a demo of the goo jump I mentioned. It was short enough that I decided to also give it to you in an AVI, which will allow you to rewind if necessary. However, I suggest watching the demo instead because the sound will help you identify when I'm dodging and jumping by the grunting noises.

Kraniac, can't watch this demo for some reason. Keeps saying I'm missing "utcompv16". I have utcomp v16a installed, guess that might make a difference. I tried connecting to your server, didn't have a problem, but everytime I wanna start up the demo, keeps cacking out on me.

Meh?

Shagz it done the same for me. This is what I done to watch it.
Go into the server and exit the server , don't close UT 2004, and I went strait to the community and demo and it ran. It only runs once then you have to do it all over again. hope this helped.CS

Yes, it keeps the version of UTComp in your cache. If you exit UT, you have to redownload it. This is the same reason that if you get kicked for having a different version of AntiTCC or UTComp by AntiTCC, exiting and restarting UT will fix it.

I've updated the server to the latest version of UTComp, so you won't be able to get it on server redirect anymore. Download it here instead.

It contains a .zip of ALL the old versions of UTComp. Just unzip it straight to your C:\UT2004 folder, or whatever folder into which you installed it.
