On August 31st WiNGSPANTT and 7 other Golden Wrench owners will commit a nigh unutterable act of brazen item-aggression so egregious that we shudder to think of the implications should the Administrator herself catch wind of it.

On that day 8 Golden Wrenches will be destroyed.

I can't help but think of parallels between this act of charity and how Christians are instructed to live: To take those things (golden wrenches in one case; salvation, life, free will, time, energy, money, possessions, and talent in the greater example) given us by an external power (Valve in the case of the golden wrenches; God in the case of everything good we receive) through no merit of our own (a random event in the case of the golden wrenches; salvation by grace alone in the broader illustration) though involving our action (crafting an item in the case of the golden wrenches; accepting Christ as savior in our daily lives) and use them to help others (destroying the golden wrenches to raise money for Child's Play and ultimately to help children; serving others with all we've blessed and ultimately to glorify God).

Maybe I'm overthinking this (I have a habit of doing so), but nevertheless, I believe this act is a wonderful example to all Christians, regardless of whether those destroying their golden wrenches are Christians or not.

We are all given gifts we have not earned. Instead of using those gifts exclusively for our own pleasure or comfort (though there is no fault in enjoying the fruits of our labor, within reason), we can reach out to others with those gifts and help them.
 
I think it's great that they took something that is generally fluff (playing a game) and used it as a force for good :) . In this use it gives those virtual non-existent items an actual value imo.

I'm not suggesting anyone should or should not donate to the charity. If a person chooses to donate to Child's Play, he or she should, of course, only do so after tithing to his or her local church.

EDIT: That wasn't meant as a reply to Whon's post as much as a disclaimer to tack on to the original post.
