Goals 2012

Officer SOE/LoE/Where's "here"?
I really was unsure about creating this thread, and prayed a bunch about it. Then was unsure whether or not to put it in General Discussion, but this won out so here goes. I am not much on New Year's resolutions, but thought a simple goal or two towards improving my walk with God might be a good idea. So I thought if we set individual goals towards that for 2012 that might be a good idea. Then to pray for each other and help track those simple goals is what this thread is all about. Not a big list of '"resolutions" but a simple goal or two to work on, and help each other with. We all have individual areas that could stand improvement in our walk with God. It is not necessary, or even helpful to pick a big, huge problem to share, but something easy to pray about and work on. Now that I've made that as clear as river bottom mud let me start with an example.

My own goal is to try and live a more healthy life, considering our bodies should be a living sacrifice to God. A temple if you will. So I am going to start actively tracking what I eat and drink, which I started today, trying to lose 43 lbs by October 2012, my annual check up for sleep apnea. So I will keep it simple, slowly renovating this "temple" to praise God with. Before anyone suggests exercise, that will have to be under medical supervision, and guidance. So prayer, encouragement, recipes, will all be appreciated, and occasionally ask how it is going.

How about it do you have a simple, unto God, goal for 2012?

Good goal - specific - achievable - with an end date. You can do that. I've lost 46 pounds since July, just eating right and walking some.

For me:

1. Continue to honor God with what I put in my mouth.

2. Journal at least one prayer time a day.

for me, its really having financial discipline and learning how to do that in the next year, and for spiritual growth, im not sure yet. usually i have a theme, e.g. prayer was the big thing i was on this year, im not sure yet what God would have me work on next yet.

Atown do you have Excel? If so I may be able to help a little. I have been keeping a monthly budget sheet for a while. Each month as it is completed it goes in a file folder with the paid bills. It tracks recurring and auto payments too. It is a small exercise in financial discipline. All you have to do is change the date and check recurring amounts before printing it out to use. Here is a mock up with some data entered to show how it would work. Don't worry fictitious data pulled outta the air. With Excel it would take about 5-10 minutes or less to change all data. And the column totals are all automatic with a simple formula entered in the totals boxes. Hope this is a help.

My goals for 2012 is twofold:

1) To not forget the spiritual truths I have learned this past year (a spiritual diary is helpful).

...and 2) To remember that even the things in the ministry must take second place to my own spiritual growth and well-being. Christ must shine on me before I can reflect His light to anyone else.

My big goal for the year has turned out to be to reorganize my life to better unify my duties and interests into more complementary, mutually-supportive activities, rather than losing efficiency by going into too many separate directions at once.

And as a side goal, I'm trying to learn to speak in shorter sentences, too. Just because I know ten million adjectives to describe things with, doesn't mean I need to use them all at once in the same place.

I've got a few different goals, but they all point back to a single goal: to study the Bible in some way every day.

Between devotionals, preparing lessons, finding a verse of the day here, and a few other things, I want to make sure that I'm not just looking at God's word, but meditating, discerning, and taking it to heart every day.
