Gears 2 to feature optional language and gore filters

I think this is a GREAT idea, one I would hope to one day see in every game. Granted, I'm a big fan of gore and language doesn't bother me as much as it used to, I would still like to play some M rated games in front of my parents and others who wouldn't appreciate it.

What about the rest of you? Are optional filters a good idea or not? To what extent?

Love the idea.

The main reason I didn't play GoW1 is because of the gore and adult content.

One of the reasons I enjoyed UT2004 so much was that I could turn off the blood, gore, and mature taunts.

Now that I know GoW2 will include a similar feature (which makes sense, since Epic also developed UT2004), I'm much more likely to download a demo and consider purchasing the full version.

I think they're a good feature provided that they're mutually exclusive. I.E., I'd want the adult language turned down, but wouldn't mind the gore staying. Of course that entire statement assumes I'd have time to even buy the game, let alone play it so

There was a letter to the editor in Play magazine (I think it was play anyway) about this stuff a couple months ago. Why this isn't a more widespread option, I have no idea. You can do it in Metal Gear Online (though I haven't checked MGS4). I can't say I'm bothered by gore in games, but sometimes it seems like the language is there just for the sake of appeasing the mindsets of (ironically) teenagers. Either way, I'd think if (like Cliffy B claims) the writing is better in this one, they wouldn't need all the swearing :D.

woot so next time i sleep over at a friends house and we decide to play a game all night long and beat it in one sitting (like we did with gears of war 1) there will not be as much cussing O_o

Its a good idea, but cant help some people might use it as an excuse to play games they would normally be convicted not to play (just being objective)..

I didnt care for GOW when i played it on my friends Xbox... maybe it was a combination of being introduced in the middle of the game and never getting used to the thumbstick crosshair aiming.. i just couldnt go for it..

After you have played the cream of PC shooters at a high level of skill, the linear, enemy is always right infront of you console blast-em-ups just dont really give me much enjoyment.. If im going console i much prefer games like Super Mario Galaxy or Zakk & Wiki..
