Hey guys

Please update you anti-virus software. Or get some if you don't have any. I'm seeing a lot of PCs lately that are loaded down with viruses.....because the person NEVER updated. Even if you have a Mac or run Linux, it's still a good idea as you'll pass along a virus to a friend running windows. (Sort of like covering your mouth when you sneeze)

Anywho....

OH......and while you're at it....backup those pictures of the kids, or that vacation....or whatever......Harddrives do have a 100% failure rate you know.

Just wanted to remind everyone.

I second that. I can't tell you how many student's computers I've seen in the past couple weeks that don't even have virus software at all, or more than one(they can conflict so pick one!).

Also some other things to note:
1. Computers are NOT waterproof, please keep this in mind.
2. When exposed to an open flame your computer will probably melt.
3. Mac's are NOT superior to PC's.
4. PC's are NOT superior to Mac's
5. Tech support unless located outsourced, is awesome, treat us with respect. Just because it's broken doesn't mean it's fixable and just because it's broken doesn't mean we did it(we fix student's computers for free at my school and some students just don't know how to appreciate that service).

But do you update/check to make sure it's updating, and scan every so often? This ANTI-things are absolutely useless unless maintained and well.....USED.

Gosh no, if I were the God of computers I'd make them all deists! I install it and leave it to care for itself forever.

...

Yes, I do. I'm not entirely inept. (just a little :P)

Once a week I update/check everything and the run the scans

Yep, I am in charge of the five PCs at our office when it comes to the security stuff. Anti-virus on every single one, as well as Spybot (which I update every Friday, when IT updates) and ZoneAlarm. All are kept up-to-date.

Make sure your computer is protected! I had to do everyone's computer after a coworker used MY computer on my day off and download Bonzi Buddy. He just said "Yes" to everything it asked...

...Needless to say, he received a lecture and may not even TOUCH my computer.

heh ouch... that sux

i use AVG Free, AVG anti spyware, Ad- Aware SE Pro (dont ask), Reg Cleaner (its legit of course) Windows Live OneCare reg cleaner, Windows Defender,
and i have my virus scanner to update every single day... and every single day it gets a new update... so in my mind... its better to update every day not once a week... lol but what do you do lol get this story.... :(

My girlfriends mom's computer was acting all crappy... and i have a bit of luck with fixing computers. So i volunteered for brownie points and a legitimate excuse to spend time with my girl. lol it was a heat issue... i found out cause her motherboard's capasitors exploded from the heat.... but in the mean time, the hard drive got too hot and was ruined, the processor was shot, the powersupply was the only good thing left on the beast. so when i tried to reinstall XP on one of my hard drives, i used my backup 20 gig drive. well there went all my back-ups. So that didnt work. So get this, the junky computer is lying on the floor, my computer is sitting on the floor beside my desk.... and my hard drive got fryed... a peice blew up. All it was, happened to be a mini transistor.... very crucial to the operation of the hard drive. Fortunate for me, i had backed up to 20 gig earlier that day for precations.... wait I formatted it a minute ago to instal windows..... :( it was a sad day for me... Thankfully i got it replaced for 18 bux... canadian :) and it was upgraded to a 250 instead of 200 lol. So the moral of the story... Backup to DVDs... its cheap and they dont blow up :(
