Legacy of Elijah [LoE] - Proud Grandfather
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked. Luke 4:22 (NIV)
This was after Jesus had read the scripture in his home town synagogue. A mere six verses later those same people did this:
All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. Luke 4:28-29 (NIV)
Interestingly, or maybe miraculously,
But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way. Luke 4:30 (NIV)
The difference was that Jesus said something they didn't like and it completely changed their hearts towards him. How often do we do the same when he calls us to do something we find unpleasant?
