Freeware alternatives to commercial software

A friend of mine was needing an alternative to Frontpage as we work a joint website together and I remembered this thread. I saw several suggestions for NVU but no website so here it is.

Any chance of making this thread a sticky?

OK...what about illustrator?

Gimp looks great as a Photoshop alternative....Blender and POV-Ray look great...but look like overkill as an Illustrator replacement...or is my experience with Illustrator too limited to realize the Blender and POV-Ray are where I should be looking?

And another one.....what about presentation graphics, i.e. Powerpoint? I would love to find an opensource replacement for the church that would free us up from the need to buy multiple Office Pro lisences just so we can have PPT...
