Freeing up RAM in Vista?

All you have to do is turn off the Widget Bar and all the Vista aero junk and the memory frees right up.

you missed my point..if his motherboard doesn't do ddr2-800( and considering what was isntlaled wasn't ddr2-800) the chips are going to downclock no matter what..and most notebooks don't actually do ddr2-800
When Dell shipped the notebook out, they included 1GB PC2-6400 RAM, so I'm pretty sure my notebook is capable of running it at full speed.

The only reason I "downgraded" from PC2-6400 to PC2-5300 is because I have 2GB of PC2-5300 (that I originally bought for my Inspiron E1705) and only 1GB of the PC2-6400.

that was not mentioned that i was aware..heheheh..the difference between the two speeds is going to net you less than 5% in raw synthetic memory benchmarks..you aren't going to see much if any kind of real world improvement..but if you have the ddr2-800 ram may as well throw it in..:)
