So which ones do I need to play?

Annie, Gangplank, and Malphite.

Even though playing as Malphite is a bit boring IMO.

I don't know if Vayne is a good choice for new players. Or maybe I just stunk on ice with her; I don't recall. But she's ridiculously strong in the right hands.

I hate Vayne now, never fed so bad as when I played her the last 2 games.

Free Vayne week is awful. She's difficult to play with due to her short attack range, which in turn means you get a lot of feeding Vaynes. With the right positioning though, she's a real terror.

True, but for some reason, a strong Vayne seems more nightmarish than your average deadly champ.
