PvP to me is part of the WoW world. Sure, I hate it when I get mauled. The only penalty is time. No durability loss, no item loss, no coin loss.
Basically, your first 20 levels are gank free. Then as you venture into contested terriroty, you have to be careful and watchful.
After lvl 35, ganking back is easier.
PvE = you choose which PvP battles you fight. Once you fight one PvP battle, you are a legit target until 5 minutes after your last attack or PvP enabling act. Its like playing during an uneasy peace period. You can solo more and it is quicker to attain higher levels.
PvP = Either you or the other faction chooses which PvP battles you fight. Its like playing during war time. All targets are viable targets with limited exceptions. Working in groups will lessen your chance of being attacked by the opposite faction, the warlike element of play slows down levelling a bit.
I think everybody would be 5 to 10 level higher if we were on a PvE server. But I know I would miss the "fear" factor of seeing a bunch of horde characters on the horizon. I hate being ganked, but I like the adreneline rush you get when a Orc warrior rushes you from nowhere and you manage to get the upper hand an win it. I also enjoy when you lose a battle and take out the next lowbie horde character as retribution.
I also enjoy watching what happens when you get corpse camped and you call in reinforcements and 5 lvl 60 alliance members come by and play whack a mole with a bunch of lvl 45 horde characters, buff you up and escort you to where you were going.
I also enjoy the ability to corpse camp with a group of others and then out of no where comes 5 lvl 60 horde to play whack a mole with you.
I've grown used to that aspect of the game...I'm not ready to give it up.

I can deal with WoW ganking better then I can deal with my constant 20+ lossing streaks I constantly go on in WCIII:TFT.
