firewalls, anti-virus and spyware oh my

exodus

I'm using kiero personal firewall v 2.1.4 and Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition.

at the moment i'm not using any specific anti-spyware program, and I've noticed a couple things slipping thru my firewall.

any suggestions on apps to block/remove spyware?

I have a linksys firewall and I use Mcafee virus scan. Atleast once a month I run Adaware on my PC to clear out any spywhere/adware that gets through. I also use the google toolbar that has a popup blocker in it.

Ad-Aware is an exelent tool but I prefer Spybot Search and Destroy as it not only can remove spy ware it also imunizes it so in the future it will be unable to install on your system.

I second Spybot Search and Destroy. If you feel like you're locked down, install it, update, and check your system... You'll probably be pretty shocked. :P

spybot search n destroy is the pwners even if AOL indorses it

amen to spybot! Although, I have both installed....

PS - I'm running Norton Anti-Virus 2003 Professional and Norton Internet Security 2003....VERY tweaked up for security.

I'm not running any Anti-virus software, although every now and then I jump over to trendmicro.com and scan my machine for free. I have smoothwall running on an old machine which is my firewall/vpn/dynamic dns/etc. I have both Ad-aware and Spybot seach and destroy.

Linksys firewall, norton antivirus professional or something, avast! antivirus, spybot search and destroy.

there originally was a reason I ran two AV's but it's long since forgotten.

Ad aware is good and free.. i Had the pro version too with the auto checking when u surf.. but it seemed to lock up when u turn your pc off.

I would use Linksys Router Firewall, but i usually don't trust hardware firewalls

disabled those features etc.

I made my computer dynamic dsn etc. so i use Kerio Personal Firewall, and i've recently got norton AV2004 for er... realy realy cheap from Booyah

!!!!!!!! Corp!! NEVER USE WINDOWSXP FIREWALL!!! it blocks off everything, and that might be the cause of ur router/computer connection trouble. i had that problem once.

mozilla's awesome about eliminating spyware....

It also helps that my computer runs virus scan every night....I usually run Spybot and AdAware every couple days....and my cpu defrags once a week....

I can't tell you how much that has helped this computer run well!

How do I turn Windows XP Firewall off?

Go to......

Start Menu\Control Panel.....click on Network Connections....right-mouse click on either Local Area Connection or whatever you use to connect to the internet (if you use wireless, it'll be different)....select Properties click on the Advanced tab...then uncheck the box to stop Windows from protecting your computer......

any questions, email me or IM me, like LoJ....both are in my profile!

I just did that, what you said, crazydrummer, its off.
