Fastest way to re-size video and maintain quality?

While digging through some of my old fansub CDs, I found sets of episodes that play on my Philips DVP642 (the poor man's DivX player of choice) with the subtitles cut off. The problem is that the subtitles are too low. (Most fansub groups have since raised their subtitles higher, but these episodes are circa 1994.)

The original video size is 640x480. I'm thinking re-sizing to 704x400 should push the subtitles higher and make them readable.

I have Auto Gordian Knot doing its thing to resize the video and convert it to XviD format, but it's taking fooorever. I started the job at 11:24 a.m. and it's at 20% on its second pass 42 minutes later.

If I'm going to resize 26 episodes, I need a faster method.

What do you all recommend?

"Any Video Converter", is an awesome converter...and fast... However, I also had this problem and in the setting of my DVD player, I was able to change it to "show all" or "show original" or something like that, and it fixed the problem...

Only do 1 pass, you probably wont even notice the difference on the second pass with a screen < 7"
I'm playing the videos on a 27" television. The Philips DVP642 is like a regular DVD player, but cooler because it can play DivX (and, by proxy, XviD) files.

hmm, if you had access to a linux box I would recommend giving mencoder a try, you could deposite files into a directory and run a command to convert em all.
