CGA & ToJ President
Okay. Several of you have experessed an interest in extending the CGA Convention LAN past four hours on Saturday. We need to come up with possible scenarios and discuss the issue before creating a poll.
To start, here is Elihu's original agenda for Saturday:
Since Elihu posted his original draft, I have suggested shifting the praise and worship to the late night service and starting the day with prayer and testimonies.
Some things to think over before posting:
- First and foremost, those who attend the convention must understand that this is not centered around gaming--it is centered around fellowship with other Christians and celebrating our faith. To be frank, the LAN is one of the least important events of the convention; I honestly believe people are going to look back on the services, prayer meeting, and praise and worship with greater fondness than the LAN. I don't mean to say that we should axe the LAN in favor of another service--the LAN certainly has its place. I just mean to say that we should keep our priorities straight.
- Elihu and I, of course, reserve all rights to leave the schedule as it stands now. While we will do our best to accomodate the wishes of those attending, we must keep the agenda within the bounds of reason, finances, and time.
- We will be gaming again later that night--just in a different fashion. After the LAN and after dinner, we will have three hours to play games at the arcade. With possible DDR tournaments, simulator games, and pool tables, this could prove to be more fun than the LAN.
- Our flexibility is limited. We have approximately fourty-six hours to plan all events. When we factor in sleep, showers, meals, services, praise and worship, and testimonies, we have little time for outside events. While we agree that it's important to hold a LAN during this convention, some might debate on the appropriate length of the LAN.
- While we are holding the LAN, Ember will be leading the women's event. Recreation is sparse in Tulsa, especially recreation that doesn't involve gaming. If you rule out pool, the arcade, bowling, and the movies, there are limited choices for events in the vicinity of the hotel where we'll be staying. Ember is currently working on finding an appropriate venue for the women's event and I have faith that she'll find something excellent for the ladies (and children) who attend the convention but opt out of the LAN.
I am not saying that we should not extend the LAN. I am only asking that all those who plan to attend consider these points before posting their suggestions. Once we round up more practical choices for altering the agenda, we will hold a poll asking what attendees would prefer.
