Its true, with Wintersday they added some keyless chests that always give between 500g and 3k along with a gold item or rare material such as a ruby. So far I've opened 10(5 on 2 characters) I've made about 15k between the plats I've gotten and the ruby. My best item so far is a req 9 Tactics Diamond Aegis.

Wow thats awesome! Just ran 4 of my characters to chests in elona, talk about easy money. I got 3k + a gold item from chest in nightfallen jahai (sp?).

I've only done 2 so far. I got about 1K + 2 golds. 1 was a worthless wand with a +dmg vs hexed, the other was a non-max schythe with a +30 fortitude. I think I'm gonna try the others as soon as possible in case this is only a Christmas gift from ANet during the event.
