E3 news...

Man, I thought the boards would be crawling with E3 posts by now, but I suppose everybody's off actually reading E3 news. :)

So what are you excited about? At the moment, I'm pretty intrigued by Nintendo's plans to allow gamers to download 20 years worth of Nintendo games onto their next gen console, including NES, SNES and N64 titles. (link) I'm also liking the idea of the GBMicro - an even *smaller* Game Boy Advance? Crazy...might as well attach it my key chain!

That alone convinced me to wait for the Revolution. Think about it:

Tecmo Super Bowl ONLINE.
Wrestlemania 2000 ONLINE.
All the old Zeldas.
All the old Final Fantasies.
Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

I will have them all.

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

hehehehe, the revolution will pwn. the only sad part about it, is it doesnt have alot of power. i mean by the specs i heard my computer is more powerful and mine is prolly the weakest out of toj. im liking the ps3 though, the possibilitys witht that are incredible. plus their getting ready for age of empire 3 and dungeon seiege 2 so im freaking exciteed. and the gbmini is to small for me....

I really like what the revealed of the Revolution, including the multi-generational backwards compatibility.

I'm also glad there were some playable Xbox 360 games, which shows we definately have some progress.

I liked Sony's conference with all the tech demos, but it doesn't seem like they have a complete roadmap.

Games:

Zelda: Twilight Princess
Age of Empires III
Full Auto
Burnout 4 (forget the title)
Gran Turismo 5

Isn't revolution about change and moving forward? Not going back in time and letting you play a bunch of old stuff? I'm kinda dissapointed with it because they were claiming it'd be a revolution. But it's still darn cool! I would love to be able to play whatever old nintendo game I wanted! I still wonder what the controler is gonna look like... Right now, like everybody else, I'm most excited about the PS3. Those demos were amazing.

arg no that means my hard collected SNES and super cool games will not be that totally awesome any more

Bye bye
FF3/2
Chrono trigger
Super Metriod
F-Zero
Mario Cart
Zelda:A Link to the past.

oh well.

I can't wait for;

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Burnout 4: Revenge
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
and
Call of Duty 2

I hate nintendo the only thing good about them in my opinion are the old Final Fantasy games.

Well, they haven't revealed what exactly the revolutionary part of it is yet. And for a good reason; they don't want Sony and Microsoft so steal their ideas. Reggie stated yesterday that this has happened different fronts, such as rumble in controllers, 1st party wireless controllers, etc.

We need to wait until the dust settles at Sony and Microsoft, then Nintendo will tell all :)

Hehehehe...re: "Ep. 3", I saw an advanced screening on Wed morning - not that it matters much since I'm sure you've all seen it now, but it was still cool to brag about. :)

re: the revolution...yea, I'm definitely a Nintendo Fan - their first party games are amazing - but I don't know if they're doing enough to attract third party games. Processor specs and graphics cards power don't matter to me much, it's about what games are available on what system. But a beefy engine under the hood attracts developers, so we'll see. I want to believe that Nintendo can recapture the market again - I really think they're "gamer" focused, as opposed to Sony and MS which seem to be going in the "multi-media center for your living room" direction - but...we'll see.

Ack...there's just no cutting it, I'll have to buy all 3 systems. ;)

lol, just buy a ps3 and downlaod emulators and roms for the rest :P noone needs an x-box 360

for halo 3, just wait for it to come out on pc, it will eventually

Let us not forget the inevitable Unreal Championship 3 for Xbox 360. By the way, I've only had to call it the "Xbox 360" for about a week now and I'm already thoroughly annoyed by it. What's the matter with Xbox 2? Ybox? A completely different name altogether? Five syllables and no good form of abbreviation... bad choice.

how about "the 360" or "360" thats what i call it....<G>

:D

I haven't had time this last week to browse E3 news, but I'll post my opinion on Nintendo's current path: Without Sega to copy, Nintendo is heading down the path to obsolence. Nintendo is like the Disney of the video game world: incapable of creating new ideas but adept at copying and adapting the ideas of others. If M$ breaks into the Asian market and Nintendo continues to create and distribute products based on "cool-looking" but flawed concepts (Nintendo DS, Gameboy Micro), they'll fall far behind Microsoft and Sony.

While I applaud Nintendo for achieving portable perfection with the Gameboy Advance SP, I remind Nintendo fans that the big N isn't incapable of making huge mistakes. Remember the Virtual Boy? 'nuff said.

So, my harsh criticism of Nintendo aside, which company am I rooting for during the next phase of the console wars? None of them. I can't afford a next-gen console or any of the games AND Sega's not making new consoles any more.

Oh man, you can't tell me that downloading NES, SNES and N64 games to your Revolution isn't a new idea. :D

Really, though, everyone else is following them. The rumble in the controller? Their idea, everyone else stole it in that gen. 1st party wireless controllers? Now they're all doing it in the next-gen. Nintendo is so hush because they don't want Sony and Microsoft to take their ideas. That's why you're not impressed by the Revolution :)

re: projected costs...ouch. If that's US, I cringe what to think it'll be up here in Canada.

re: Xbox name...well, they couldn't use "XBox 2" because "Playstation *3*" is more than 2, right? :P I keep catching myself calling it the NextBox.

re: Nintendo as Sega...casting Nintendo in that light, I see what you're saying Tek, it does look like a very similar path. Sega DC had great and weird games, funky interfaces (Fishing reels, microphones for that Fishman game, etc.)...but Nintendo *does* have it's brands (Mario and crew) which are, IMO, much stronger than Sega's brands, or anybody else's for that matter. Nintendo shouldn't be relying only on the power of those brands though, they shouldn't be doing something more to get us interested (which, IMO, the GB Micro and downloadable games does) and get the non-traditional gamer interested.

But how do you suggest they compete with PS3 and XBox? What should they be doing instead? Should they be aiming for the "video game console as epi-center for your digital lifestyle" target? Should their games "grow up"? I think that's something that would be hard to pull off - Mario in an FPS? ;)

At any rate, if Nintendo follows form from the last generation, maybe the Revolution will be only next gen console you'll be able to afford. :)
