Drinking? Sing or Entertainment

I choose not to drink, but seams some say to ban it from exsistance. I thought i would stick my 2 cents worth without having a to go to a post that is now 8 pages long.

I am against drinking, and do not think it is a very good decition to even start drinking. To say it is a sin is to go against the bible , because I know Jesus made wine , and he made it for the purpose of drinking.

In our culture today alot of people have went over to alchoholism, and that is a shame. But banning it would not do much accept increase our Jail population
smile.gif
, just like drugs. I am for TAXation of it, lets start slowly increasing tax on it so that it cost so much that noone would want to. Lets take Pot for example, let say you could buy a pack of joints for 40$ at your local Gas station, and lets say 30$ of that was tax
smile.gif
, our government would be doing very nice, and for those of us who do not smoke we would enjoy low tax`s, and for thosethat did smoke we would get paid to let them do it.

Or even 60$ a pack, with 50 dollors of it tax
smile.gif
, ahh, I feel my taxes getting lower by the minute. Instead of banning it and giving that 50$ a joint to a drug lord or a gang, legalize it and we would have no problem any more. Now you get into "dangerious drugs" like crank, cocain, ect ect, I dont know how i feel about that, but we could cross that bridge when we get there. Anyways just a suggestion

PS, title was suppose to read
"Drinking SIN or Entertainment"
not SING or entertainment sorry

The Bible is against drunkeness, the casual drink or glass of wine is okay in moderation. Many argue that the liquor back than was not as potent as today's. But enough so that some Biblical people did get drunk (Noah, Lot, etc)

I personally don't drink because my husband is uncomfortable with alchohol (childhood stuffs) Plus I don't like wine, beer or anything where I can taste the alcohol.

I can give you tons of references about wine being a blessing in the Bible, but we must first prove that Biblical "Wine" was alcoholic. Here you go (these texts are pretty self explanatory and get down to the point):

Luke 7
"33For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' 34The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners.'"

1 Corinthians 11
"20When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat, 21for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. 22Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not!

Now, clearly the Biblical "wine" is alcoholic just as it is today. To argue that it was less strong would be pretty pointless because I'd argue that it was stronger and I'd bet that neither of us would get very far.

Drinking is not evil. Drunkardness is a sin, though someone could argue that Biblical drunkardness is not the same as we understand being "drunk" today. I prefer not to get into that though.

Now, I will say that underage drinking is obviously a sin, as it conflicts with the law.

I don't currently drink, since I'm underage, but as soon as I turn 21 I will.

Heh, I just found this discussion forum.

Biblica wine as being alchoholic? well I would sure think so.

But I would have to question usage of it in todays world. Back then they use to drink wine(probably pretty strong too), and the lord never exactly said why they were drinking.

Take this into concideration, when a hospital cleans pretty much anything, they use alchohol to make sure it stays nice and clean. I dont htink I have to prove that alchohol is good for that

,

Back in bible days they use to go and buy there meat from a guy who cut it in a smelly barn, then hauled it to town on his donkey, or back, and then sat out all day untill it was sold. How many germs do you think was on that piece of meat? More than I would want to eat, but now if you had a Glass of wine with that germ infested piece of meat, chances are it would kill alot of the germs when it sat in your stomic. Same as it kills germs on a hospital sergery bed.

These people in the bible did not know what a germ was, and if you told them they would probably say that you were demon posses. But God told them "Have a little wine for your stomics sake",

You may notice wine was used alot in Festivals, but another thing that was right there with the wine was raw meat.

That is what I believe God wanted us to use wine for, as a health bennifit. Not a "getting plastered with your friends" drink

In todays society, how much of a danger does our meat posses? I buy my meet strait from a Grocery store, where it has been cut using clean knives, and has been frozen during travel. I would have to say our meat is pretty safe, and that we do not need any wine for health reasons.

now if you want to drink to get drunk, go right ahead, and if you feel that the bible interpation of "drunkard" is osmeone who is always drunk, rather than someone who occassionally gets drunk, that is between you and God.

What about your witness to others? the whole "making your brother stumble" senario.

I can show you verses in the bible of men having more than one wife, should we start doing this too

(one is enough for me, heheh)

In a christians life I do not see any practical use of alchohol in todays world. there are 0 upsides, and many many downsides. You gain nothing spiritually from getting plastered

The alcohol they use in a hospital is a different type of alcohol than in wine, beer, and spirits.

I agree that the intent was not to get hammered with your friends. Wine was drunk daily, but (ideally) not to excess, and with a meal.

I would disagree that our meat is safe. Please, do some research on just how unclean our meat generally is (if you don't mind a suggestion, "Fast Food Nation" is a great book, very readable, on the subject).

One upside of drinking (again, not excessively) is that it helps the heart.

I was talking in realativity to back then, I would say our meat is pretty clean, granted not "perfect" but we have alot of measures to ensure its safty that they did not.

You can still pour brandy on a cut to "disinfect it" if you are out in the wilderness or something, it is different types of alchohol, but they both kill germs

Slowly increasing the taxation of it will actually segregate users... such a thing is assinine. Eventually only the rich would be able to afford it, this is completely against the American ideal (IMHO).

When I say 'segregate' I only do so for lack of a better word.

Um...... yea.......... you mean like only the rich can now afford nice cars, darn it all, we should all have those nice cars!!!!,

you are implying that Rich people should not have any extra rights or abilities, or just saying that poor people should be able to do what the rich do too.

I have no idea what type of society you come from, but face it, being rich means you have more moeny to spend on "extras" like a new H2, or a million dollor house, or wine. Being poor means you get to live in a trailer, or in your car. Always has been that way and always will be there way.

I am not going to start penalizing someone because they have money. They were either given it, or earned it. So let them have it.

The GOAL of raising the price on beer/wine was so that LESS people drink it, so if the poor cannot afford it any longer, then.... we got our GOAL of having less people drink it. If you are "poor" what on earth do you need to spend your money on achohol anyways? so by raising the tax of it you would be helping the poor to get out of debt. And those that are truely addicted(the ones who keep buying it even though they cant afford it) would be easier to spot, and we could help them(with all that new tax money we have from beer)

So you are actually HELPING the poor by raising taxes on beer. I know alot of people that try to quit smoking because they cant afford it any more. Same would happen with beer.

The "american way" was to let everyone have a chance to succed. YOU want to take that right away, and if someone does happen to SUCCED you want to DRAG them back down. That is why "Rich" people have 50% of there income going to taxxes, and poor end up feeding of the government.

I am all for school programs that give people money to go to school, but to just GIVE people money is just stupid, you are just teaching them to feed off the government and not work for themself. Anyways I have my 2 cents, maybe I stuck a dollor in here, owell:)

PS, Communist think that everyone should be equal, and the US is not a communistic state
