DRAFT

Oh boy, I sure don't want to be in the army...

Wow, you don't actually believe that do you?  Best to lay of the internet rumor mill and take this into context.

The president, the secretary of Defense and any number of senior lawmakers have all insisted that a draft is not necessary—nor in the works. “I don’t know anyone in the executive branch of the government who believes that it would be appropriate or necessary to reinstitute the draft,” Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an April speech. “There isn’t any reason in the world why we can’t manage this force better with less stress on it, and it simply requires changing the rules, changing the requirements, changing the regulations in ways that we can manage that force considerably better.”

Also, take into consideration this was a bill created by democrats to protest the war movement.  Please look at it for what it is.  A political ploy to sow distrust.  It has been stuck in committees for almost a year now.  And since the majority of the house and senate is republican, I doubt it will ever see the light of day.

For a little more truth, take a look at who is sponsoring the House of Representives version of the bill:

http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:HR00163:@@@P - Listing of cosponsors
http://clerk.house.gov/members/index.html - Site you can use to look up the sponsors and see that they are democrats

And for the senate:

http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:SN00089: - No one besides the one democrat who proposed the bill is even sponsoring this at the senate level
http://www.senate.gov/general....ollings - Information on the senator who is sponsoring the bill

Something smell fishy here?  Sure does to me.  Yet just look at the political spin this is getting on the net.  It is really sad to see people saying that this is coming from the president as is quite obvious by the sponsors of both bills that this is being done by democrats.  So please remember that this is an election year and scumbags will do anything to feed of the fear of those who are ignorant of the true facts. Please do some research next time too before blindy feeding off of internet rumor mills. All the research done for this post was accomplished in about 15-20 minutes by using actual government resources.

I would jump at the chance to serve my Country, to be honest. But I'm married and old (27 years old). I also believe that is not the path that God wanted me to take, as I just about joined the Marines when I turned 18...

Plankeye is right, this is not something that Bush is pushing, but something the Democrats came up with.

Something 2 democrats came up with, something that will never happen. So don't worry about that.

I would serve my country too, but I can't join the military(which I found out AT basic training). But there are other ways to serve.

I would serve too if they would allow me. But I am partially deaf and could not pass the hearing portion of the MEPCOM physical. So even if you can't serve directly, just as Justice said, there are always other ways to server. A key one being supporting our nation's current leaders and the troops who volunteered and have put their lives on the line to give us a choice to choose if we want to serve or not and keep us safe at night.

i will not serve this country, it is a good country, right now i just dont feel it is my place, nor do i feel compelled to.

I would but I'm canadian and we don't have guns just sticks and stones. With the exchange rate we can't afford them. But we have health care.

I was thinking about joining for a long time... air force and keep the family tradition going, dad was an e5 and grandfather was a Chaplan... but im the only son so I think there is something against that in a draft, no idea.

Every male, on my father's side, in my family dating back to pre-Civil War has served in some area of the military. I even have plans to join, though I think God has different plans for me, much to my dismay. I've been raised in a God fearing, USA loving, conservative house who have instilled in me the virtues my fathers and forefathers. I would lay down my life for my country any day. God bless the USA!

PS --- For all you Bush-hating democrats...Give up the ANGAR... =] Despite much of what you hear the media say, he's rather a mild manner, though not the best speaker, common-sense, intellectual, and spiritual man. I know, I've met him and actually prayed with his family on one occasion. gg libs

That's my say, bye now.

I also come from a military family. Both my dad and older brother graduated from the Naval academy, and my grandfather was in the Army. So everthime I have to go to one of those lame military picnics they always ask me "So, I assume your going to follow your fathers footsteps?"

[RANT]
So its pretty much assumed that i'm going to do that with my life? Let me see here... once you join the military you BELONG to them. They take any part of you that is YOU and replace it with what THEY want you to be, in other words, they take away your personality. Dont believe me? They did it to my brother and dad. On top of all that, I dont want to put my future wife/kids through what I had to all my life - As soon as you get confortable in one place, make friends, etc. they make you move.
[/RANT]

I always told my parents if an army truck was were ever in our street, i'm making tracks for Canada.

I will never fight for my country. My God is more important than my country and he states quite clearly that i shouldnt kill. So my country can do what it likes.

Its not your country anyway.. And you guys are far more patriotic. But still if you are prepared to kill in the name of a man then what does that say about your relationship with God?

yes i am prepared for the onslaught of americans saying what if they invade and will you fight for your freedom etc.. but think about it... who holds your freedom? If you cannot believe that God will keep you and in all things he will work for your good then you are seriously missing the point.

But what about the freedom that others deserve? Would you fight for them, and their families and the children? Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty...not all people believe in God unfortunately.

Well would you steal to help someone? would you commit adultery to help someone? would you worship an idol to help a foreign country?

nuff said.

oh im not trying to start an argument btw i am just saying there could be no situation i could be put in that would result in me killing another person. If you dont think the same way then you are entitled to go kill some iraqis...

although if you are fighting for them their families and children..what about the person you just killed, his family and children? its a no win situation..

Well, I can totally understand your beliefs but sometimes war is inevitable. If you read in the Old Testament, you'll see how many times God ordered war. You'll also see how harsh God can be if you dont' obey Him - thank God for Jesus Christ and his mercy and grace! God was very harsh, and even ordered the killing of not just all the men, but the women and children too. Freedom isn't free...

Think about WWII. Do you seriously think God was going let Hitler murder all of the Jews and and run rampant all over the world? No way! Do you think stopping Hitler and all of the Germans/Russians/Japanese under his command is considered murder?

I understand Rizz - I'm more interested in what you think about certain situations - no arguments here!
