I thought overall the movie was good except for the representation of the military. They could have done a much better (and realistic job). Also it would have been better if there was more verbal confrontation besides just between the two figure heads.

From the looks of the trailer it looks like all the military did (except for some guy with an M203 that slid under one of 'em and shot it with a grenade or something) was run away in panic.

Not quite. But they did for the most part get the living daylights beaten out of them.

... At least they didn't make the AF out to look like a bunch of pansies like most military-like movies do as they concentrate on the marines...

But FYI, the AC-130 in the movie is NOT shooting 105mm howitzer shells, it is using 40mm. (The 105 wouldn't have been used that close to friendlies).

And they shoulda used A-10s instead of F-22s at the end, due to their ability to fly really low and dish out (and take) a ton of damage. -but that's just personal bias...

Just for the record, I said M203.

Yes that is the original Optimus Prime! And I felt they did a very good job making our Military look good. They adapted at the end and began to hold their own. They were protrayed as weak but when a more advanced species nvades earth they were at a disadvantage to which they adapted and the A-10 was in the movie in the desert it was AWESOME!! woot!

I loved the transfomers but hated the human acting. I sort of felt I was stuck between watching a really worthwile film and something that was directed towards small children.

Ah yes, the A10... *drool*

Woot! Dad's fighter wing is in wiki. I guess it does have just about everything...

Anyway, the A-10s are from Pope AFB, NC in the movie. You can tell this because they're the only ones allowed to paint the shark teeth on the nose.

Anyway,
AC-130 Specs These guys pwn.

More Transformers, slightly cloaked to prevent unintentional spoilers:

I didn't have a problem with the way the military was portrayed. The guys from the beginning were definitely portrayed as heroes. And losing part? Um, we would lose the early battles. It would take a few defeats before we figured out how to combat something far more advanced than ourselves! (Well, unless we just got lucky early on...)

But the soldiers are depicted again and again as fighting against incredible odds, even when they know they can't win. But in the end, of course, they do win.

So I would say that's a positive depiction, far better than you usually see unless it's a military-themed movie...

I agree. I was actually surprised/impressed that the military found a way to fight them (using those heat rounds or whatever they were). I suppose you were as angry at War of the Worlds as I was...

War of the Worlds was amazing!! Was exactly how it was supoosed to be. Real fans of War of the Worlds totally got the films. Everyone around me hates this film but they did not change anything to the main story and everyone's complaint is with the main story. If you did not like the new one don't go see the old one you will hate it as well!

No, I knew the story. Yeah, it was exactly how it should have been, and it was the story I disliked. AND yes, I understood the message, but when aliens invade I like to think we stand SOME kind of a chance. (I don't know if anyone hasn't seen it that wants to, sooo...)

The whole plot, to me, revolved around avoiding an inevitable death meanwhile watching everyone die around you. It's all just mindless drama from that point on. "Am I going to die here? *phew* Okay, we lived through that scene. Uh oh, here's another place I'll probably die. Golly, I'm lucky it ate him instead. Let's keep moving..." There was nothing moving the story forward besides escaping death, and the getting to Connecticut thing seemed pointless.
Anyway, not my taste. Not dissing H.G. Wells or anything. Later!
