Controller suggestions

I've just started playing Just Cause 2. There are a lot of extra keys to press to do different things. Maybe it's my age but I'm finding it harder to press the right keys and realized this game (and at least one other game I've tried playing recently) seems to be a perfect fit for a controller. I'm a keyboard and mouse guy so I don't want to spend a lot for a controller I may use for one or two games or not at all. However, I also want a controller that's gonna be useful if I decided I like it (or age and dexterity force me into using it). I bought one from Wal-Mart about 2 years ago but it never wanted to play nice with any of my computers so it was recently placed in my circular filing can. Ideally I'd like to keep it to $20 or less. Any suggestions?

It's hard to beat a wired Xbox 360 controller, especially with them being so widely supported by games right out of the box. Unfortunately, they'll set you back more than $20, and I don't think I'd chance it buying an off-brand imitation in case if games don't recognize them as the same controller.

Beyond that, I haven't dabbled in made-for-PC controllers in years; I always use console controllers (with USB adapters if necessary). Not a bad way to go either (since some games, especially ones that could be called retro, play better on Playstation or even Genesis/Saturn style controllers).

Hopefully others will have more experience to offer. :)

You'll be hard-pressed to find a high-quality PC gamepad for under $20, especially if you want a wireless controller.

I own and recommend the Logitech F710.

I also recommend a PlayStation 3 controller + Bluetooth dongle + MotioninJoy setup. There's some initial setup involved, but I find it's much more comfortable than the F710 when playing games that require heavy use of the left and right triggers.

I have both gamepads (F710 and PS3 gamepad) connected to my desktop PC and I <3 them both. Getting them to both work with certain games can be a bit troublesome.

It will be for my desktop so wired is fine. Looking for something good but cheap. I don't want to have to work too hard to get them to work either. If it's easier to just not play the game than fight the setup I got plenty of other games to play.

Patience has never been one of my strong points. Bought a Logitech F310. Its supposed to be the wired version of the F710. Walmart had it online for $21.77 but Target had it in store for $24.99. I printed the Walmart price out, took it to target and they pricematch. Just gotta hook it up and see if I like it or not.

Tried playing Just Cause 2 with it. Buttons are nicer than trying to find the right key to mash but it's gonna take some work to get used to the dual joystick setup.
