Console RPG jokes...

That list is awesome.

A few years ago, I wanted to design a console role-playing game, but never got very far with it. I purposely decided to avoid as many cliches as possible, though. My main character was even going to have *GASP* two living biological parents!

NOTE: About half these rules also apply to anime series.

"Mommy, why didn't they just use a Phoenix Down on Aeris?"
Don't expect battle mechanics to carry over into the "real world."

I always wondered about this, I used them on her in battle all the time but this one time Cloud just refised...Tifa made him do it I'm sure of it.

186 is one of my favs: Apocalypse Any Time Now
The best time to do side quests is while the huge meteor hovers in the sky above the planet, waiting to fall and destroy the world.
I love doing that :)

""Silly Squall, bringing a sword to a gunfight..."
No matter what timeframe the game is set in -- past, present, or future -- the main hero and his antagonist will both use a sword for a weapon. (Therefore, you can identify your antagonist pretty easily right from the start of the game just by looking for the other guy who uses a sword.) These swords will be far more powerful than any gun and often capable of distance attacks." laf
