Prices on items at newegg are absurdly random as of late, so every day I get on newegg and look for the items I have already chosen and compare them to new ones.

This time I think I may have found something...

Original Card - Reduced in price by $27 from $199.99.

New Card - $47 more than the original find at $219.99.

What are you guy's thoughts on the cards.

The first one is pretty cheap, but so is the second one for being one of ATI's top cards.

But the new card only has 512mb of VRAM, unlike the original's 1GB VRAM.

First card is GDDR3 while the second is GDDR5. In terms of speed the second card probably will be faster due to the higher memory clock. I highly doubt that you would be able to fill up 1GB of video ram.
 
the higher memory clock may not do him any good depending on his cpu..if the cpu is too slow he won't keep that card fed.
 
I really want it to run Warhammer Online with out a hitch - all graphical options turned all the way up in city raids which are 400-600 people in one area doing lots of spells and other animations (Right now I need them off or on the very lowest setting, lol).

Most likely an AMD 9950 (as I want to fiddle around with water cooling and OCing later on) and about 4gigs of ram.

not a whole lot of headroom in that chip do to the clockspeed and the 125w thermals. you could keep a 4860 fed..not sure about the 4870 though.

There is no 4860. And it is likely dependent on the game. Some games require a lot of logic (MMORPGs tend to need less CPU as a lot of the physics, AI, etc is handled on the server). While you can try to match cards with CPUs, I think it is more important to buy the best price/performance at the time you build.
 
A while back my friend and I tooled around with his computer and successfully OC'd it with water cooling.

We OC'd the graphics, CPU and tried the RAM (G-Skill) which did not like it too much.

We will try OCing this computer. XD
