Somehow my winsocket got corupted on my computer and I can not get online (im at my aunts house). I got a tech to come out and basicly he said either reformat or take it to a profesional and he will prolly end up reformating. I have reformated win98 before but im having some trouble with 2000, I have no way to restart in dos and when i try to format c: in the dos pop up window it says unable to. Ive tried running it off the win 2000 cd and did not work either. My last resort was to right click on the hard drive and click format but it gave me an error that the drive is still in use.

Does anyone know an easy way to format win 2000 without getting to dos or a shortcut to start in dos mode?

ok thanks i got a few of the dos boot disks and I found a work around to get to dos from another site when i get home tonite hopefully everything works right.

also if your having issues you could probably pick up dos from kazaa. i did when i needed a bootdisk. But the other suggestions sound better.

Boot disk is the way to go if u don't hav the bootable cd.. I only hav bootable cds cuz my computer doesn't hav floppy disk drive

Here's what I did and it was done in 20 minutes:

I took the hard drive out of my comp, walked over to my friends comp, plugged it in his second IDE port, booted to windows, right-clicked on the HD, and format...
TOODLES!!!!

The only problem with this is, you cant delete any partitions... hopefully your hd has only one partition using all of its space...

Also if you dont have another comp to do this with... Norton Ghost is a pretty powerful utility too.

Ok I fixed everything and my net is back up and i found a few ways to get to dos without a boot disk but I ended up just using the repair utility then deleting my current partition that worked on the third try.

IT used to be freeware.. My father burned it while it was, i think now u have to pay for it.. Does that count? its old version, yet i dun think theres any bug in it.. i used it recently and it was successful.

I lovingly know partition magic as partition muckup, on two occasions I have had it nuke my hard disk and force me to do a complete format, when all I wanted to do was create a new partition using existing space. I still use it, despite my better judgement, to create linux partitions, as it hasn't goofed on me lately.
