My new gaming rig is on the horizon...

This is what I am starting off with, questions comments and concerns please. I am not looking to spend a ton of money on a state of the art system, but it is time to upgrade...

Just want some more opinions besides my own. A wise man once told me that the smartest people are those that surround themselves by smart people and listen to the thoughts, ideas and opinions of said smart people!

board seems overely expensive and do u already have OS disks?

Cheaper and very well rated board that does the same thing

also your case does NOT come with a PSU and you dont have one listed plus im an advocate of $40 cases that do come with PSU's and have higher ratings from customers reviews >.>

Get a single 8800GT instead of the two 8600s, it will likely outperform the 8600s in SLI and will allow you to buy a second later on if you need more horsepower. I would recommend avoiding SLI all together if you can, as I have never really seen a situation where it is more cost effective compared to single card systems.

If I were you I would go with a second raptor in raid 1 for data redundancy, plus you will get much better read performance. Then put in a 500GB in place of the 320 (I think they are like 20 dollars more but the $/GB is a better deal)

I knew I could count on you guys! Actually I am amazed I did not get a "Buy a Mac" comment but the thread is still young... =)

OK here is what I did, I swapped for a single 8800GT, I added another raptor and swapped the 320 caviar for 2 500's (probably overkill on HD space but I filled up 250 gigs in just a few months the last time). I also changed to the ABIT board since I am not going with SLI and after talking to another friend of mine will probably never do dual cards. As for the case I swapped for one with a PS but I am a sucker for eye candy so it's gonna be RaidMax ftw!

Again feel free to comment away.. I have been a computer professional for 7 years, built many systems for other people but honestly I have never done this for myself, I never have time. I just make some choices from dell.com and wait for the delivery. :(

You get your geeky butt back there and buy another PSU young man! lol raidmax makes the crappiest PSU, get a PC power and cooling one.

even with all those good reviews? but it looks soooo pretty and pretty can never be bad... :( I will research it some more. Thanks!

Most important things in a PC: CPU, Board, PSU, your PSU powers every little thing in your PC, if that dies your computer dies, and it is well known that if your PSU explodes it will kill your motherboard and other parts. and think about it: you can hardly see your PSU when it's in the case... why have a pretty one?:D hope this helps.

I bought a Enermax 500w when I got my computer, PC Power and Cooling supplies are really good, but they are a bit pricey. I would use them for servers maybe but they are a bit too expensive for my taste.

I would buy a DFI over an Abit personally. Their BIOS is just plain amazing for overclocking, it even has profiles you can save so you can revert back when you go a bit to far without having to remember everything.
