I am still in a debate with myself on whether or not to. I meen Yeshua did say not one jot of the law shall pass away and I am a spiritual Jew right? Also God wants to be worshipped in spirit and in truth. Some other things too. Christmas has become very comercialized. There some other things I have heard about pagan origens which I am not sure about. I am also consider the hebraic roots of christianity very importent. You can at times find deeper meenings in things by studying this. But the spirit will guide us into truth. One thing I forgot. He wasent born at that time of year anyway.

Then pop, shouldn't you A) not cut your hair, b) eat kosher, C) celebrate Yom Kippur (kinda flies in the face of Jesus), etc all the way to ZJHASDQ13134124AJHD - basically, follow the Mosaic Law to the T?
 
Correct Timor except for not cutting my hair. I am not sure but I think I know where that comes from, and the way I took the verse was cut your hair but dont go bald from cutting your hair. Yom Kippur doesent slap Yeshua in the face. My Yom Kippur (day of atonment) was when Yeshua paid the price for my sins.

Also, a lot of what's considered Kosher, is extra material added to the Law by Levites, but eating Kosher isn't exactly a bad thing.

So, Pop, do you follow Mosaic Law, then? How about punishments - do you regularly stone violators?

(Note: Sorry if this sounds at all antagonistic. It's not meant to be; perhaps a bit sarcastic, but also quite serious.)

actually no. the mosiac law had a lot to do with food, as well as when to plant crops, and numerous other odds and ends.

It was in effect a guide to the Jews life.


The parts that most people associate with the law (the sexual sins, the 10 commandments, the punishments) were actually a very small aspect of that law.

Akin to today's society in America, a very small part of the law on the books, deal with actual crime, but there's a huge mess of nonsense on not offending people with your speech, things companies can/can't do to the environment. things people can/can't do with the land they own.

IIRC, the prohibition on long hair comes from *ahem* Paul [sound of can of worms opening...].  Think about Sampson...was he shameful for not cutting his hair?

Anyway, the whole prohibition on hair/beards comes from the practice of the surrounding tribes who worshipped other gods.
Lev. 19:27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.
Which is why Hasidic Jews (for example) all have full beards and earlocks.

Leviticus 19:27 does not in any way recommend you have long hair. It instead states to NOT shave off ALL your hair on your head or on your beard.
The length is a judgement call baised on the natural standards Paul was speaking of.
Paul has NOT made The Lord my GOd to be a liar.
You on the otherhand have come close.
Would you now like to rephrase your insinuation.
By the way i know Herod was consumed by worms THE LORD GOd PLACED UPON him. So then perhaps i am like unto those same worms now sent upon thee.

I was just saying that some sects of Judism (such as Hasidic) view this as not cutting the earlocks, which is why they have such long ones.

Agreed again. BUT, did not members of the Nazarenes (such as Sampson) not cut their hair? That was my only point. (And it was always funny to hear my lil' Baptist school explain why it was cool for Sampson, but not for us.)

Can of worms = an expression...I could have likewise stated that I was throwing a rock at a hornet's nest. I was not trying to stir up further controversy about Paul v. Jesus with this response.
 
geeez where do u guys get all this knowlege, i mean sheesh i felt confident i could post at this topic cuz it was mainly bout food and pagan christmas and now goin through the Bible talkin bout shaving hair and wat not.

umm i read every single day especially on this kind of stuff, heck ive read so much stuff half the kids my age wouldt even care to read. but i have learnd alot from bein here. and pop wat is tanahk?
