Christian gaming unit seeking new members!

Hello!

I'm a member of a Christian gaming unit called the Seraphim Regiment (http://www.seekhim.com/). I have been tasked especially with trying to recruit more European players for the unit, as that is an area where we are trying to grow (the current majority of members are from the US). Regardless of this, players from all parts of the world are more than welcome to join! :)

Being a Christian is not a criteria for joining, we have members who are atheists, agnostics and/or adherents of other religions. All we require of our members is that they accept our Code of Conduct, and we aim for a family-friendly gaming atmosphere, both in-game, in our forums and on our TeamSpeak server.

Our main games at the moment are as follows:

Anyone wishing to join us is more than welcome to send an application through our web site. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me in this thread or by PM, I'll be happy to answer! :)

Have a blessed day, everyone! :)

Please don't take offense (I know, bad start to a post, right?). This is my (hopefully helpful) first impression of your site.

I find your website very hard to navigate (and I would consider myself somewhat tech-savvy). Your main page consists of information overload (as far as a newcomer is concerned). You have two horizontal navigation bars and some of the areas seem a bit redundant. I already have my local time in my task bar - placing it on the webpage is a waste of screen real estate and processing resources (especially for the folks in the same time zone as the "hanger" time). You might consider tagging your "hanger" time widget with the actual time zone location (i.e. Eastern Standard or EST) as having to calculate where it is via the time differential only adds to the information overload.

Your banner displays on every page of the site. Not disastrous, but quite a bit of real estate taken up forcing me to scroll that much more to reach the information I was looking for. You might consider a second banner with less vertical height to use on each page while retaining the full size banner for your main page.

Ack! Just realized it was a flash object after wondering why it took so long to load (noticed the different banner on the MechWarrior site). Why? Why? Why? Is it a concern for people taking your banner image? The PrintScreen button renders this method completely pointless. Also noticed the time widgets are flash as well. . .You can do the same thing with Javascript without forcing the need for Flash.

The Colonel's Desk and admin tab both take me to a login screen. Why do I see an admin tab? That should only ever be visible to the small number of people who use it. You are basically giving out the url for the admin page. Sure logging in is required, but when has that ever stopped a determined individual? I would recommend only showing these tabs to either folks who are logged in or to only the folks with permission to access them. The Activity tab, while somewhat informational as to what the clan demands of its members, seemed to also be a feature for logged in folks.

Operation Gumbo - Tab takes me to a login screen. I happened across what it was by clicking on the Mechwarrior tab. Being that I wasn't interested in Mechwarrior I would never have known what this tab was for if I was just coming to your site for War Thunder. I would recommend hiding it for all except those who can access it or place it under the relevant Mechwarrior section.

The forum tab takes me to a list of forums. Unfortunately, the area I might potentially be interested in (War Thunder) has zero posts in the main section. I see no information on whether you get together for fun or play the harder missions. I am a 100% arcade player and reject tiers higher than 2 due to the pointless "one-shot kill" type of play with cannons (even tier 2 is dubious in that respect). Do you guys have players at that level or in that mode? I don't know because I can't find that information on your site.

Also, why does the Star Trek section show up at the bottom regardless of which sub-forum I am in?

I know, you are looking for recruits and I give you a review of your website design. Sorry. But perhaps knowing what newcomers see when they first visit your site might help you to increase the numbers you are recruiting. If the changes above are too much, you might consider adding a new tab (or include it as part of the application tab) that is geared toward newcomers. Have it explain the various games you play and how you play as well as what would be expected of members. For example:

-------------------------------------------------------
WAR THUNDER:
We have pilots of every skill level playing at all tiers. The majority of our pilots tend to play Arcade missions while occasionally getting together in squads to compete in Historical missions. We prioritize having fun and setting a good example over everything else. All of our pilots use Team Speak while flying to coordinate flying tactics. Competing is not required to be a member although we do expect weekly check-in's on both the website and in Team Speak. If you want to join our squadron apply HERE.
-------------------------------------------------------

Please realize that this is the opinion of one person and you may disregard any or all of it if you so choose. I do hope it was, at least a little bit, helpful.

Hi there, Patriot, and thank you for your constructive input! I'll be sure to point the boss towards this thread so that he may consider your suggestions.

Have a nice day! :)

This is totally off-topic, but I would hire Patriot as an editor. And I've been employed as a technical writer before.

I see what you mean - Patriot's comments and suggestions bear witness of an individual who knows what he is talking about! :)

I directed the boss to this thread, and the input was very much appreciated. Some changes have already been implemented on our web site along the lines suggested here. :)

Bumping this and Hello Gare! :)

Hello! Please feel free to use this thread to share updates about the Seraphim Regiment. One of the purposes of the Christian Gamers Alliance is to help promote Christian gaming groups and web sites, whether they're member-groups of the CGA or not, so we'd love to read more about your group if you or other members are so inclined to post. :)

Hello Tek7,

Thank you for the invite.

Yes we are still recruiting for all games. We have over 200+ members playing games such as MechWarrior Online, Star Citizen, League Of Legends, Wireframe, Minecraft, War Thunder, Lord of the Rings Online, and others.

If anyone is interested please come to www.seekHim.com

We would love to have you. We have a Code of Conduct and do require all members to agree to this as we also have our kids on the servers as well and want to keep our children protected as best we can.

Looking forward to seeing you.

In Christ,
Thoughtfulwander

It does indeed work.... but will Star Citizen ever become a game?

It already is a game. Been playing it for months now... We are in alpha stage. Which means it is a bit buggy but the game is playable in arena commander which has five games in it. Free flight, racing, battle royal, Vanduul swarm and capture the core. All can be played with four friends or in different modes or solo..

The new update coming out will have a more ships. The update 2.0 will have Large World. Which is the first of several updates before the persistent universe comes out.

But yes it is a playable game now just not totally complete but still a whole lot of fun. :)
