Bush and Civil Liberties

I think I'll just say this, and perhaps most Americans here will agree with me... Thank God only Americans can vote and decide who our leaders are. I'd rather not have our French "allies" voting for our president, lest we turn the way of Jacques René Chirac.

Aren't we all taught from a very young age, particularly from our Christian heritage, that what the rest of the world thinks about you doesn't matter in the least? Something to chaw upon...

(Edit: After reviewing the link you gave Que, I quickly realized that that particular poll was being slung quickly to the left [towards Kerry] due to some, quite a few actually, countries having very few votes, as few as 1 or 2, voting for Kerry. I don't think that's very representative of a whole...)

Oh yes, plenty of stand-up world leaders support Kerry

There's chirac of course....and oh yeah, Arafat, you know the guy who's been bombing Isreal for years upon years....

let's see, they have terrorists in FAllujah on record saying their current stepped-up campaign is an attempt to get Kerry elected....

And I'm sure his friends from North Vietnam support him, after all he supported them during the Vietnam war.

so lets take this down a step, should the church be sensitive to what the community around it says, like take down your sign, close the doors, fire your preacher hes too strict to the scripture?

when we start letting the outside run our inside then we are in trouble.

LoJ - I didn't say we should be slave to other countries' opinions, I said we should respect them.

And how is that pertinent Vanaze? Any old person can write some slanderous statement like "John Kerry was responsible for the loss in Vietnam".

First, I'll say this. I never said John Kerry was responsible for the loss in Vietnam. No one has said that, actually.

I think it's very pertinent to make note of the fact that the North Vietnamese recognize John Kerry as a war hero. For whom, you may ask? America? Perish the thought. North Vietnam. They have a section in their war museum honoring him. That speaks worlds to me. It's not surprising though, how a communist nation would accept him as such. He fits right in =]

You know what Iraq has in common with Vietnam?

Bush had a plan to get out of Vietnam.

We all know the story of how George W. avoided serving in Vietnam.

Actually, Bush volunteered to fly missions in Vietnam several times but was denied the permission because he didn't have enough airtime hours. He served, he served honorably, much against whatever you might hear from the distortion of media outlets, was discharged honorably and fulfilled all his responsibilities. Let's not demean and belittle what time he gave preparing to defend our nation. I don't belittle what Kerry did in Vietnam, I appreciate his service. I disagree with the embarassing lies he fed to congress about our soldiers. My uncle was one of them, as were many close family friends. None of THEM commited war crimes. Kerry, on the other hand, running for president...The most important office in the WORLD....Admits to commiting atrocities. Killing children, cutting of extremeties, burning down villages. That, my friend, is the difference between the two men.

If you remember debate number 2, Bush was asked to name 3 mistakes he had made in his presidency. He basically insisted that he had made none. I'm not saying that he's any better than Kerry in terms of lying, but he isn't the golden boy you make him out to be.

I never made him out to be a golden boy, only someone whom I trust more than Senator John Kerry. I gave both the honor deserved, actually.

That's sort of a bunk question too, don't you think? That's the same as saying "President, please give the liberal media 3 things to wail on until you want to die. Okay? Go."

Someone really needs to hold these guys' feet to the fire. I honestly wish there was as damaging a question for Kerry to be asked as well. Neither of them are perfect, and at that I suggest we just agree to disagree on this topic. Sound good?

Ok, leaving aside the question of Iraq/Vietnam issues.

How can you account for Kerry's desire to raise taxes on those making around $200,000 a year (which are the small-business owners who do most of the job growth in this country)?

How can you account for Kerry's desire to increase taxes on everyone to pay drug companies, so that they will lower the prices of prescriptions?

How about Kerry's desire to raise taxes to pay insurance companies, so that premiums will go down (despite not stopping frivolous lawsuits, such that made his running mate's fortune, which are a big part of the increase in health costs)?

Oh, how about Kerry's desire to raise the minimum wage (gotta get those taxes paid someway), which in turn reduces the worth of skilled/educated labor (degreee holders, etc.) and increases inflation?

As well there are plenty of damaging questions that you can ask Kerry.

"Mr. Kerry, you say that you believe the rich should pay more taxes than the poor, why won't you release your tax records to prove that you (who are rich) are paying your higher portion of the taxes?"

"Mr. Kerry, you claimed that you caused war crimes in Vietnam.  Do you think a war criminal should lead our great nation?"

"Mr. Kerry, your unfounded claims, most noticeably the fact that you cannot name a single name, of war crimes, was used to demoralize American POW's in Vietnam.  This in effect gave aid and comfort to the enemy.  How can you say you deserve to be President, when the 14th Amendment denies public office to anyone who gives aid and comfort to the enemy?"

"Mr. Kerry, You claim you want to raise taxes on those who make over $200,000 a year to their Clinton-era tax rates.  Yet those same people pay more taxes under the Bush tax rates (as reported by the GAO & IRS) than they did under the Clinton tax rates.  How do you plan on paying for your propossed social programs, by collecting less taxes?"

As well, there are hundreds of more questions that could be asked.  It's just the MSM's liberal bias refuses for those types of questions to be asked of liberal candidates.

Ahh, it's so confusing!
Every year an independent tax watchdog group analyzes the average tax burden on Americans, and then calculates the "Tax Freedom Day." This is the day after which the money you earn goes to you, not the government. This year, tax freedom day was April 11th. That's the earliest it has been since 1991. Its latest day ever was May 2nd, which occurred in 2000. Notice anything special about those dates?

But recently, John Kerry gave a speech in which he claimed Americans are actually paying more taxes under Bush, despite the tax cuts. Unfortunately, he gave no explanation and provided no data to substantiate this claim.

Another interesting fact: Both George Bush and John Kerry are wealthy men. Bush owns only one home, his ranch in Texas. Kerry owns 4 mansions, all worth several million dollars. (His ski resort home in Idaho is an old barn brought over from Europe in pieces. Not your average A-frame). Bush paid $250,000 in taxes this year; Kerry paid $90,000.

End of discussion?

Still watching this thread and prepared to lock it if it gets nasty (not saying it will), given the recent "flare-up" of personal attacks on these forums. Any time given to settling disputes and disciplining forum members who attack others is, and has been, taking time away from developing new programs such as our upcoming Bible study and outreach.

This is not a personal slam against anyone as everyone has been well (enough) behaved so far--just a warning.

Not necessarily, I just wanted to make sure things remain civil as this thread has potential to flare into a flame war.
