Looks like good deals, but they are missing her only must-have, a 17" screen.

I think you should sell her on a 13" or 14" for the portability and then a 21-24" monitor for when she wants the real estate.

That's what I do with my work laptop. When she uses hers though, it's generally in the living room with it on her lap, so I doubt I could get her to use a separate monitor. I even have a monitor that size not being used right now :/

Oh well. I'll hunt for the cheapest 17" I can find, since even the most basic of hardware and software specs should be sufficient.

Did you ever find something? Not sure this is what you'd want. Pretty basic and a refurb. But it's a 17" and it's $305 shipped.

Edit: nevermind, deal expired. :/ In the discussion though someone said they picked up the same one for $309 new at Best Buy, so maybe it wasn't the best deal anyway.
