Black Friday shopping

So I've hoarded all the gift money I've received in the last year in preparation for today. I will be doing all my Black Friday shopping online, so I'd like some input on a few items from tech experts.
I haven't bought the 1.5TB drive yet, but I'm still considering it.

What do the tech experts in the house think?

I had read something about a different Western Digital 1TB or 1.5TB drive requiring a software installation for the OS to recognize the drive. In other words, the drive isn't truly plug and play. Does anyone know if this drive has the same flaw?

the problem sometimes lies in the usb bridge controllers and/or the operating system. If you are using esata there should not be an issue.

I'm now leaning toward not buying the 1.5TB external HDD because another purchase takes priority.

Still, I'd like to have an external storage device for stationary home use, so I was thinking of picking up an enclosure for my 160GB 3.5" IDE hard drive. I didn't find any Black Friday sales for enclosures that meet my criteria, so I may just watch Newegg and a few other sites for sales.

I'd like to find an enclosure that supports 3.5" IDE hard drives and includes both USB 2.0 and eSATA connections. I'd prefer if the enclosure came with an eSATA cable, but I could buy one for $8 so that's not a necessity.

EDIT: I've added the Ben's Bargains RSS feed for sales on enclosures to my list of feeds in Firefox and will be using it to watch for sales on enclosures.

Well, I brought GRID as I'm looking for a good racing game.

I also noticed another game, which is free, Trackmania Nations Forever.

It reminds me of STUNTS and RUSH.

I watched the first youtube of it and it was crazy, just purely crazy.

Have a look.

I've played plenty of Track Mania nations and its an adicting game. It has quite a bit of stunts and I find myself playing 1 track for hours trying to get a perfect run and get the best time to get a gold metal.

GRID is also very good, I bought it yesterday for the $7.50 price. The graphics and damage characteristics are absolutely amazing. It takes a little getting use to if you play with the keyboard (but if your like me, i've played lots of track mania with keyboard, so GRID was easy to adapt to). GRID has multiple countries of racing and mulitple types. Street racing, track racing, drifting, demolition derby racing figure 8 and such.

I just wish you could customize cars and parts in GRID, but for the price, its a good career mode PC racing game.

i went to wal mart, store was open 24 hours, 2nd in line for checkout at 5am with my rockband set, and was first in line at staples thanks to my dad for 6am, made my purchase at 6:04 according to my receipt with a sdhc card, 1tb hard drive, a monitor, a frame, bluetooth headset :)

Actually, I use a Gamepad. ;)

Because when I brought SF4, I had to get a gamepad as using a keyboard dramatically reduces my skill. :o

So, for Fighting and Racing games, I'm quite skilled with a Gamepad.

But I've never played a realistic racing game like GRID, so unfortunately, I keep getting wipeouts...:p

As for the damage, I was surprised. When I played a 24-hour relay race, I crashed into the rails and it ruin my steering, causing my car to drift left every few seconds.

Honestly, today's Steam sale isn't as good as the first one.

I'm disappointed L4D2 isn't 50% off, cause I would of bought it.

Oh well.

I agree the Left 4 Dead 2 sale is disappointing, especially since L4D2 is (was?) available at Gamestop for $30 USD today (yesterday?).

It's very tempting to buy Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic for $2.49, though.

Grid is only entertaining if you treat it as demolition derby. Otherwise it is an exercise in frustration (with a keyboard).

For those thinking about getting a PS3, the Playstation Blog shows a few deals with packed-in games and Blu-ray movies: Link

IMO, the best deal in that list is Wal-Mart's since you get two recent highly-rated games plus The Dark Knight blu-ray movie. The worst would be the Sony Style one since the first Uncharted is not sold at $60.

There will probably be better deals out there, but I thought I could contribute here.

I think it's safe to assume that all the best bundles (PS3 Slim with Ratchet & Clank and LittleBigPlanet at Best Buy, the PS3 bundle at Wal-Mart you mentioned) are already sold out.

The Best Buy bundle was sold out as of yesterday morning online and there were probably lines in front of stores this morning. It's late afternoon in Central time zone and I would guess that all the best Black Friday deals (with the exception of the Steam sales, which has theoretically infinite supply) are already sold out.

EDIT: Man, I really sound like a downer with that post. My apologies to Omega. :( There may still be some good PS3 bundles available online!

You mean with a wheel...

I have a logitech steering wheel (this one) and it is a PAIN to calibrate it in game. There are only two scales move and it seem s that, with my wheel anyway, it is impossible to get right.

It looks really good, but I am really glad I only spend $8 on it.

Okay, so I was watching the trailer for Madballs in Babo: Invasion when "4 PLAYER CO-OP" lit up my screen. That was enough to convince me to drop the $2 and buy it. Then I went ahead and bought a copy for my wife.

If anyone else ends up picking it up (and it does look like fun), be sure to let me know. I'd like to try it out with some community members.

EDIT: Apparently, the game comes with one free guest pass. If you're not ready to shell out the $2 after viewing the trailer and want to try the game out on a guess pass, just message me on Steam. Remember, though, the game will be back to full price in about 8 hours (at 10 a.m. Central).

Well, I bought the THQ pack.

Its a really good deal, 18 games for $50, roughly $3 each game.

But actually, DoW 2 got me interested as the demo was very cool.
