Black Friday 2012

For those of you participating in Black Friday this year (the "be ready to buy some stuff online at 12:01 a.m. on Friday then go to bed at 12:30 a.m." event, not the "rampaging hordes of consumer zombies trampling each other to save a few bucks off a cheap laptop" event), please feel free to share the best deals you find in advance of Black Friday.

Also feel free to share what you'll be shopping for; I'll go first:

  • 23"+ monitor/HDTV for gaming PC
  • 2+ TB SATA hard drive
  • Blu-ray burner
  • Computer case?
  • Mainboard?
  • Processor?
  • RAM?
I'm hoping to find some time to review ads today. I'll post if I find anything particularly noteworthy, but it seems Black Friday sales are less and less impressive each year.

EDIT: I'm also looking to find a good price on a fast and dependable 32+ GB SDHC card with a lifetime warranty for my and my wife's digital camcorder.

honestly.... staples has one of the better deals and its the same one as last year :(

I'm gonna get the 32" samsung at walmart but otherwise, unless newegg puts out a really good ad.... i'm a bit disappointed in bf this year :(

I'm shopping for:

2x Polk Audio monitor 50's or 60's. (Probably the 60's that go on sale at 1pm PST today @ newegg)
Polk Audio center channel CS2
Subwoofer to match up

Mechanical keyboard with cherry MX blacks

Gabe Newell and his "empty my wallet" game sales.

Skylander starter set (for the kids I swear!)

So here's a crazy thought: How about I pick up the PlayStation 3D Display for a PC monitor?

EDIT: Nevermind. It's sold out.

It's back in.
And now it's back out again. :(

Any way to sign up for a stock alert on the Best Buy site? I didn't see one, but I may have just missed it.

EDIT: Can you send me a text or e-mail if you see it back in stock again? I'll PM you my Google Voice number.

Okay, I'm looking for recommendations for an awesome 22"-24" monitor for gaming. Low latency and image quality are my main concerns. I'd like to find a monitor with 1 DVI port and at least 1 HDMI port.

I have no idea what any of this is, but now I must have it all.

Anyone find any great deals?

I've only picked up a $40 (after rebate) Blu-ray burner, a Logitech C310 webcam for $15 for Skype with the family and voice chat in games and TeamSpeak (I sometimes play games 10 feet away from my desktop PC in the living room), a $40 LittleBigPlanet 2 Move Bundle (which includes LBP2: Special Edition, a Move controller, a Move navigation controller, and a PlayStation Eye), a Sandisk 32GB Class 10 SDHC card for $18.

...Of course, when I list everything together, it sounds like a lot, but it feels like I've been penny-pinching compared with last year's Black Friday. :p

I've missed out on multiple $90 3TB SATA hard drive deals, but after reading reviews on some of the drives, I'm thinking that may not be such a bad thing.

My haul, keep in mind I only went for movies and PS3 games.

(I also bought Dawnguard and Hearthfire during the Steam Sale)

Blu-rays
Batman Begins
Dark Knight
Captain America
Fight Club
The Hunger Games
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Prometheus
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes 2
Taken
X-Men First Class
Thor

PS3 Games
Dishonored
God of War Saga (all 5 games)
Red Dead Redemption GOTY
Tekken Tag Tournament 2

I haven't bought anything yet. But I am researching a Kindle Paperwhite 3G vs. a Kindle Fire HD 4G for my mom. She expressed interest in an e-reader so I'm trying to figure out which is best suited for her. I did talk her out of the Barnes & Noble Nook at $59 though.

Thanks for the tip for blu-ray movies. I'll have to look into those.

I picked up:
samsung 32" LED tv
samsung point an shoot
black and decker 18v drill + 2 rechargeable batteries (wedding gift for someone else)
pyrex 24piece kit (different person getting married wedding gift)
2 ps3 controllers (now can have 4 player action!)

My Black Friday purchases have been almost entirely Steam/Amazon Digital. Picked up a fair number of games (or DLC) at great prices. I'm even more overstocked on backlog now than before. The problem with there being so many games I wanna play and not enough time to play them. D'oh!

Biggest non-game splurge was $50 on a year's sub to Crunchyroll All-Access. Was wanting to buy in at $100 previously. Getting it for $50 was something I didn't wanna pass up. :D

Also scooped up 8GB of RAM for $20.

Wow that crunchyroll is tempting, I am loving the Roku and that would be a perfect addition. Just don't know if I have enough solo viewing time to be worth it.

That is indeed tempting. Trouble is, the wi-fi at work doesn't have enough bandwidth to stream 720p video. :( Still, might be worth plunking down the money for when I'm home. How does the streaming video look compared to downloaded .MKV files?

Whaa? Where?

My wife is just about done Christmas shopping...

I picked up a spotting scope for my son for $42.

Sadly, I'm not the best guy to ask on this; I don't usually land in videophile turf. I haven't ever done a direct parallel between the two, but I've been very much satisfied with my experience in the past; in fact, I just streamed some 1080p stuff and went "yup... good stuff." :)

TigerDirect. Got lucky with a $10 coupon code (that I no longer see on the page) added to the already good price of $30. Granted, that's DDR3 1333... and 2x4GB chips. Buuuuut... that's what my mobo hungers for, so I am content with doubling my RAM. :D
