BFBC2 - PC - 19.99

Would suck if it turned out that it was just a Prima guide. xD

No limited edition features though! I <3 my extra vehicle armor. ^___^)_b

IMO, this SecuROM isnt as bad as you think:

blogs.battlefield.ea.com said:
SecuROM in general
The version which we use is a wrapper around the main game executable. It does everything it can by running as a “normal” program; it does not install any sort of kernel software.

What this means is:
* No software is permanently installed on your machine.
* SecuROM is ONLY running when the game is running
* When you uninstall the game, you will also uninstall the SecuROM software.

It does not install a kernel, will uninstall with the game and only runs when the game runs.

Not at all bad imo.

Actually, it probably is. Here's another quote from the BFBC2 blog:
SecuROM and the final game

The final game will also use SecuROM. The main game executable (BFBC2Game.exe) will be wrapped with SecuROM. Some support files in the game’s installation directory also belong to SecuROM.
"Belong to SecuROM"? What exactly does that mean?

EA is being rather vague about a DRM method widely considered invasive. I find it hard to believe that ambiguity is accidental.

If they told you then you could manipulate the game and rid it of SecuROM...

After the lawsuits, IIRC, EA toned down their SecuROM, so that it was less invasive.

In the same link they say that it is uninstalled with the game, only runs when the game runs and once the game is uninstalled so is SecuROM (it isn't left on the computer) - hence it must be part of the game.

So EA learned their lesson but Ubisoft is as daft as they come, then?

Don't you find it odd that they fee the need to say that?

If I was trying to sell you a software product and felt the need to say, "The new version won't require special tools to uninstall!" wouldn't that raise a red flag?

Even so, they don't properly explain what "Some support files in the game’s installation directory also belong to SecuROM" means.

Regardless, the information is coming from EA, which is not exactly known for being forthright with its customers. If the game releases and an independent third party with technical kung-fu more powerful than mine confirms what EA says is true, then I'll probably believe it.

When I tried to return an unopened gift copy of Borderlands, Valve (more specifically, Steam support) repeatedly stated that the patched game didn't include SecuROM, yet a byte-for-byte comparison of a pre-patch and post-patch executable says differently.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I believe I have legitimate reason to be skeptical of anything EA says regarding SecuROM or DRM now.

I'm just curious to see if anyone is actually in the beta and trying the game? I received a beta key through Nvida's Club SLI on the 10th and just tried it a little last night. In-game name is Whon with a clan tag of [toj.cc] if anyone else is playing. I may try it for a while (even though it is secuROM) just to get a feel. It was fun last night, but that's just the 1st go at it.

Yeah, me, Kiljoy, Parabellum, OmegaAmen, annnnd a few others...?

I enjoy it tons over MW2. xD

Bah, I HATE THIS BETA!

Unfortunately, I'm not the only one with that problem.

Yesterday, I CANNOT join any Server games!

Not even the ones that are Empty!

Today, same thing except it can take over 2 minutes to finally say, Connection Error!

I've used every Port Forwarding, no extra programs, still doesn't work.

So, I HOPE BC2 beta's Maintainence fixes that problem, as well as others.

I test this as well but not on the open side so I will stick to facts that can be found if researched about the Beta.
Corpfox this is WHY it is a Beta to get the Bugs found and Hopefully fixed prior to full release but as for the connection issues they are on EA/Dices side, due to the massive amount of people testing in the Open/Closed Beta it overwhelms the EA master computer login system from time to time [Was very Bad the first week].
I respect how Tek feels about SecuRom but this is the call of the individual, in the past certain games using SecuRom gave me problems showing up as spyware or Malware, later it was discovered that they were using a higher level of SecuRom. BF BC 2 has given me no problems to date so I cannot complain, but if a Game Developer uses a form of security then it is the responsability of the gamers who oppose it to bring this to their attention with a opposing argument, without doing so will never change a thing.

For those who are interested in Command & Conquer 4 you may Register for a Free Membership Here

Then its pointless when they gave me a Beta Key that a game WON'T WORK!

And unfortunately, I can't give away my Beta Key either!
