Best free anti-virus for Vista?

see, I'm not so nuts now for getting Norton Gaming AV... everyone thinks whon's crazy...

Apparently Symantec revisited the drawing boards and totally redid their engine from ground up. Which is sad for me because I get a lot of business from removing Norton360 as it slows user's machines to a halt.

I dont use antivirus... perhaps I should after this as I think karma will get me... but I have never had massive computer failures due to virii.

My brother got one once a while back and it slowly shut down all of his tasks from the task manager... when I found out the first thing I did was take him off the network and made him reformat/reinstall before he could get back on it lol.

All you need to do is be smart about what you download and where you get stuff from. ALWAYS use reputable sources!

I decided to give Avast a shot, but I need to install Microsoft Office (including Outlook) first, so the install can configure e-mail protection.

just be sure to take the options of pop-up announcements and voice announcements off. they drove me nuts to have then come up in the middle of a game.

The Symantec they tested was probably the Symantec commonly used as corporate software, and not the standard Norton home. I used Symantec on my PC when I was in school and it is extremely lightweight and has been for years. Norton home with all the extra crap thrown in is what was so problematic.
