Avoid AT&T DSL

I had my own line in my apartment, I had the 6 mbps service, and that is what I got with everyone else having the service too... I was actually unaware that DSL could be split for multi units...because of the phone line data... I was almost positive that only Cable could split the service, and they do, to entire neighborhoods...

you are correct. They put a trunk line into the MDu and run that back to the CO. The trunk line has a phone line circuit for each unit. POTs has to have a dedicated circuit for each unit for dsl to work..cable being IP based can be fed form a hub inside the mdu that is shared by everyone in the mdu.

Talk about techy talk... :)

I thought as much...My cable is awesome, around 20Mbps in the mornings, but only around 6-8Mbps at night...

(Mbps = megaBITS [divide by 8 to get bytes] per second, not bytes...people always think it is bytes...)

When I had my apartment my service went down the tubes at night too, because everyone else was on the internet taking up bandwidth.

But thats how they work, make a contract with a provider so they get more money, but the residents get the shaft.

Either Dish or the service they have. And some places make it very hard to have a dish.

And have you ever tried to deal with Comcast's customer support? They are far worse.

actually the only complaint i have with them is i had to tell the guy 2x that i know how to use a self install kit. other than that i havent had a single problem with comcast. my family has had afew diff ISP's and ive really enjoyed comcast. since im not living in my orignal house with my parents, my current house is roadrunner and you have to watch those guys like hawks. they "accidentally" charge u extra months without telling you and then turn off your service without warning..... I've also had issues getting promised speeds (most other in my neighborhood are dsl or clearwire) but im going to blame my house because we had to take 2 splitters off that were in the basement for it to get a strong enough signal to work :D .

I don't like Comcast either, but the speed keeps me from talking down about them...actually there is currently NO communications company I think is any good right now...Verizon being the worst, followed by AT&T, followed by Comcast...and that is all that is here... (We are still trying to deregulate communication in Indiana...)

We use Comcast at our Townhouse, and I would cancel and get Bellsouth in a heartbeat if we... um... weren't getting our Cable TV for free.

It is not what you think either. It was their mistake.

And we... forget to tell them. :D
