By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.

-Exodus 13:21 (NIV)

WE are on our way to the Bahamas by sailboat. The last speck of land has just disappeared behind us, and we are now in open water with nothing in sight but the ocean. Every direction looks the same. Which direction do we go? We rely on our compass and navigation equipment to show us the correct course. Although we can't see our destination or the storms that may lie ahead and require a change in course, we have faith that our instruments will guide us in the right direction and that we will reach our destination.

In a way, life is like our sailing trip. Our lives can take many directions, with many distractions and storms along the way that could pull us off course. If we put our faith in God and depend on the Lord as our navigator, God will guide us through life just as God led the Israelites through the desert. God is always there for us and will always lead us in the right direction. We have assurance that if we trust in the Lord, we will reach our heavenly destination.

Prayer:
Eternal God, help us to follow where you lead. Even though we can't see where we are going, we put our faith and trust in you to safely guide us. Amen.
